Despite the corn crop made in
S miter county last year there wlil
be large shipments of the western
article to Americus shortly for stock
feeding, and for making into meal
for the thble. and it behooves one who
would escape pelagra to exercise care
In buying corn for the table or
for stock.
Sumter county has spent two hun
dred thousand dollars for fine mules
this year, and owners cannot af
ford 'to risk diseased corn feed for
them.
Commisisoner of Agriculture Tom
Hudson Is sending out notices advis
ing the merchants and dealers of
Georgia to carefully inspect the con
dition of corn that may be shipped to
them during the next few'months.
About this time every year there
Is considerable damaged corn which
Is due to improper curing. Corn
not subjected to proper storage will
become heated and in the sweating
process which follows becomes dam
aged.
Such corn Is extremely dangerous
when fed to stock. Commissioner
Hudson says that a grade of No. 2
corn is allowed a maximum of Iff
per cent, moisture and a No. 3 19
per cent., apd will become heated in
Georgia climate under ordinary care
and alvises merchants to insist that
corn shipped them comes up to these
requirements.
Thl3 warning to the merchants of
Georgia will be of considerable pro
tection to the consumers.

Americus people realize more fully
as the District Agricultural College
grows the value of that excellent In
stitution, where students receive a
practical training along line.s that
will fit them for useful occupations.
Already the institution has passed the
point expected by its supporters and
is still growing more rapidly than
any of the agricultural schools.
"AV;Jit's being done out at the col
lege?" was asked of Superintendent J.
M. Cullom by a Times-Recorder rep
resentative yesterday.
"AA'e are planning," came the
ready response from ttB superintend
ent.
"The situation is just such out at
the school that something must be
done at once. AA'e reached the limits
of our accommodation in dormitories
some time ago. Since that time pupils
who desired to enter the school have
been turned away almost every day.
Three applications came in one day
during thie present week.
“You know it is a well fixed plrnciple
of nature that the moment we cease
to grow, that minute we will begin to
die. Thera is only one of two things
to do, to go forward or fall back.
As yet we feel that we are only in
our infancy. Many years of growth
are yet before us.”
Build New Dining Hall.
“AVe have perfected plans by which
we may at a very early date Iqt the
contract to erect a new dining hall
with sleeping apartments on the up
per floor for thirty pupils. The plans
ahve been perfected thtxt will enable
us to raise every dollar to erect the
building. The matter is noiv In shape
to lay before the board of trustees and
requires only their approval.
It is expected that the board will
meet at a very early dale and pass
upon the matter. If immediate ac
tion is taken, the building can
ready' by September first.
“AVbten th's new building has been
erected the present dining hall, that
was built to be utilmatcly used as a
wood shop, will be converted into a
wood shop and blacksmith shop a!
tachf d. This will greatly relieve the
present crowded conditions In the
mechanical department."
The paper man then referred to the
recent bulletin Issued by the State
College of Agriculture.
Injustice Done In Bulletin.
"Yes, wo show up well in the bulle
tin, yet the bulletin fails to tell the
whole story.
"By some kind of an accident two
of thG finest cuts in the bulletin from
our school are credited to other
schools. The bulletin shows twent”
cuts from the eleven schools, ana
five or them are from our schoal

The Secret of Long Life.
French scientist has discovered
one secret of long life. His method
deals with the blood. But long ago
millions of Americans had proved
Eectric Bitters prolong life and makes
it worth living. It purifies, enriches
and vitalizes the blood, rebuilds wast
ed nerve cells. Imparts life and tone
to the entire system. Its a godsend to
weak, sick and debilitated people.
"Kidney trouble had blighted my life
for months,” writes W. M. Sherman,
of Cushing, Me., “but Electric Bitters
cured me entirely." Only 50c at Eld-
ridge Drug Co.
They give us credit for having tho
best equipped laboratory and the best
equipment in farm machinery, but
the report shows 'hat ten counties are
represented in the school, while we
have pupils enrolled from thirty coun
ties.
"But naturally errors may be ex
pected till our system of reports la
better perfected.
AVhen we asked how much of the
present term remained, tho superin
tendent was reminded of others plans.
Fine Program is Plnnmd.
"Yes; we are planning to make a
radical departure from commencement
exercises as they usually make up the
program of college closings.
“AA’o do not expect to put on exlfbl-
tlon every article that can be obtain
ed from the shops and the farm, but
we are going to enlarge our stage,
put on it anvils, forges, emory wheels
propelled by power, movable work
benches, tools, etc., and have the pu
pils before the audience to forge and
work iron into various shapes and ar
ticles. and from tide crude material
make articles of woodenware.
"Fertilizer formulas will be figured
out before the audience, the materials
weighed out and mixed. The girls
will cook, cut and finish garments be
fore the audience. AA’e are going to
make an innovation. But we will toil
you about it later."
