last night Alderman Hawkins, after
stating that In the fast difficulty had
been experienced In levying and col
lecting taxes on the surplus and un
divided profits of local corporations.
Introduced an ordinance providing
that hereafter th'e surplus and undi
vided profits of all banks and other
corporations shall be considered
part or their capital for tho purposes
of taxation, and shall be taxed in ad
dition to the regular capital stock.

Philadelphia, Pa., March 2.—Mayor
Reyburn made an attack today on the
ministers who sought to act aa peace
makers in the strike of street car
men, declaring the ministers were
talking about something of which
they are entirely ignorant “Why do
they want to support a lot of men In
the destruction of property and mur
der?” he asked. The meeting held this
morning by business Interests and
numerous others for ways and means
to settle the street car strike and thus
avert a general strike found no solu
tion. Early Indications today were
that the turbulencc*of the mobs would
continue.

tilul young woman of charming
personality, she made many friends
in Americas who sincerely regret
her death. She is monrned by her
husband and two little children
