Hon. Henry A. Alexander, represen
tative from Fulton county, declares
that the counties of Georgia which are
making preparations to hold primaries
for the state legislature lu May
early In the summer, have entirely ov
erlooked the act of August 15, 1908,
providing that no general primary can
be held earlier than sixty days before
the date of the general state election
In Georgia.
Now the state election will be held
the first Wednesday in October, which
Is October 5th, and consequently Mr.
Alexander points out the fact that no
primary can be held before August 6th.
Mr. Alexander Is of the opinion that
this Is a point of law which has beek
entirely overlooked by most of the
counties In the state, for many hare
already announced their Intention of
holding the legislative primary at
date considerably earlier than August
6th.

from one of the guards, Jim Broad-
. a long-term felony prisoner,
Jumped the Sumter county chalngang
Wednesday night and quietly aought
the seclusion of the pins timber' over
behind the hills of Leslie. Broadnax
bad been in the Snmter gang juat one
year and waa detailed aa cook for
the gang, a job which afforded him
a little more liberty about the camp,
although he wore the ahackles. In
some way, It Is thought, be secured
a ault of cltlsena’ clothes from one
of the tents and slipped It on beneath
his xebra stripes, discarding the
stripes later and sprinting away at
tired only as a black dnde. Diligent
search was made during the night and
all of yesterday for the yellow peril,
but no trace of him could be found.
Broadnax waq sentenced to the peni
tentiary at Rome, Ga., ten years ago,
receiving a sentence of twenty-flre
years for attempted murder. He Is a
yellow coon and a slick one. and It
may be some time ere he again wears
the uniform of the Sumter Zouaves,
where his services are much needed.
This Is the first long-term prisoner to
escape from the gang here, and only,
the second escape in more than twelve
months—a good record In a bunch of
nearly a hundred* black criminals.
