Fearful That Late freeze Will Kill II. Americus peach growers "view with alarm" the prospect for a fruit crop since tk» recent warm weather set In, starting the trees to bloom pre maturely. The outlook within the past ten days has changed materially and growers are alarmed in conse quence. Tens of thousands of trees In the Americus territory are In full bloom, and within a week every orchard will resemble a blooming garden. Up to a week ago the trees had not advanced far, but the few late hot days has caused the buds to swell rapidly. Ochard men about Americus Qo not anticipate continued warm weather. If this were true It would be all right, but they well know, or believe, that a late March blizzard will play havoc with the crop between tMs date and the March full moon. The peach industry In this section of the state Is a big Item and Its death or Its life means much to the growers, ranking next to the cotton crop In volume and value.
