It seems that the enthusiasm of the
military life of the school is unbound
ed. Every term has brought new men
to the school. It requires a lot of
preliminary drilling to rank well in
the old companies. To meet the de
mands of the new men, the present
term men, and those who bad not be
fore enlisted, a new company. Com
pany C, ha3 Just been organized.
The officers so far selected are Geo.
M. Bazemore, of Crisp, captain; TV. O
I Walton, of Stewart, first lleutenanc;
, F. W. Kent, of Sumter, first ser-
J geant; H. H. Williams, of Sumter, sec-
| ond sergeant. The other officers will
I be elected after the men have drilled
for a few weeks.
With the advent of the new military
company comes the organization of «
military band with eighteen instru
ments. Tine boys are taking daily af
ternoon lessons, and before a gre.it
while will be ready to appear before
the public.
The plans for the new dining hall
and additional rooms for about forty
pupils combined In one building have
been drawn and arrangements for
rasing all the money needed to erect
the building have been made and only
requires the endorsement of the board
of trustees to put the matter in def
inite shape.
Truly, the TMrd district school Is
growing. New buildings must in the
near future he erected. Already the
school has outgrown the support ft
receives from the state.
Some time the city may well donate
free water to the school. This item
of saving would immediately make
available funds with which an equip
ment for making lights for the school
could bo purchased. This is one item
that the school here pays for that is
free at the other schools.
This Institution Is bringing about
$20,000 to the city annually. It should
be encouraged and helped to larger
Proportions and greater developments.

sun of the Confederacy set forever,
j While a native of South Carolina,
he came to Americus at an early age
and the greater portion if his life was
spent here. ‘ |
He Is survived by his aged wife, a
daughetr and two sons. The funeral
will be held this morning at 10 o’clock,
conducted by Rev. O. B. Chester, pas
