It 1* regarded as admirable location for bualneea and office buildings, the travel along Jackson atreet at this point increas ing all the time. It being probably the main highway of the city at this time. Arch tect Lockwood, of Columbus, spent a day this week In consultation with Messrs. Allen and Hawkins. The business situation here was carefully studied and tho needs of prospective tenants thoroughly considered. On the bas s of the Information obtain ed on this trip the architect will pre pare rough plans for several kinds of buildings. These will be gone over by the prospective builders, and after the needs of probable occupants hKYe been gone into further an order w!l probably be given to the architect to proceed with the plans for the three buildings, or rather for one building that will be dlveded into three by fire walls. Mr. Lee Allen, who has the matter 'n charge, 'has several tenants In prospect and expects to have a de mand from others for accommoda tions before the plans are finally de cided upon. The building will have a fine pressed brick front, with stone trimmings, and will be a decided ad dition to the business section of the city. It Is probable that suits of offices especially des'gned for doctors dentists and lawyers will be one r-f the features of tho structunes, al though this and other matters are still In a tentative shape. The opening of the postoffice Ir the near future Is also expected to lead to the removal of some of the wooden structures near It and the erection of modern and thoroughly up- to-date buildings. It Is a safe asser tion that within two or three years there will be a decided change In the appearance of the sect'on about La- mar and Lee streets and that Jack- son street will also see considerable improvements. The remodeling and renovation of the Windsor hotel and the erection of the new government building hare undoubtedly served tc give a great stimulus to proper*y 'nterests In their vicinity. Values of lots are said to have stiffened very much In the past threo or four months In that territory and the prospective improvements will have a tendency to send values up higher. miles of Amerlcue, and besides ex cellent farming land* contains two mill sites and splendid water power for manufacturing purposes. Perry, aged 55 years and a well known resident of Schley coun ty, died at his home there Wednesday Sumter county is winner In the case carried to the Supreme court in the way of mandamus proceedings to compel the county treasurer, Capt. Pit Williams, to be sure, to pay a mule bill for tbe county which the coun ty commissioners had made a kick at. It was the celebrated "mule auit' originating here last year in tbe pur chase of eight “beauties’* for county road work. And thereby hangs a tale—a real mule tale. When the mulctlcal covey flew hers, the coun j commissioner making the purchase declared they were by tu means the mules purchased; they swore that a misdeal had been mado and threw up th<e cards. | The owner of the long-eared warb lers was positive that the mules ten- , dcred here were the mules bought, and demanded to be shown the coin of tbe county. I And thus created another swish of the mule tale. , Before the Kentucky belles arrived here the coun'y had paid the bill by| check on a local bank—a little matter of probably $1,800. But when Commissioner Bolton be held the asinine flock (the mules) ho. instituted a robust kick. He had made ’ the purchase, and, he vowed, that tho songbrda sent him were not tbe c'.sier blossoms which he had picked the week before. | The mules went to work, and the' comending parties went to the court house. Mandamus proceedings were Instituted to force payment of mullnery bill. In which tho county won out The case waa appealed to the Supreme court, and aga'n Sumt*r lands on top. The county still has the mules, and while not the robust Ways wanted for the use of the Christian subioil- ers, the commissioners doubtless will be willing to keep them and pay. a fair pr'ce for the beauties El'. .
