Smithville Sends the Usual
Weekly Letter.

Smlthville, April 27.—Mrs. Eliza
beth Wilkevson was suddenly stricken
by death Mondi.y alteram at her
home near Smlthville.
Seemingly she was In perfectly gooJ
health, having just returned from
making a call near her house a few
minutes before.
Being somewhat fatigued, she ait
down on her jiorch to rest and with
out a moment's warning fell back
ward and died.
The deceased was seventy-oue years
old and had been a faithful member of
.'he Primitive Baptist church for forty-
two years.
She leaves one son. Mr. J. I* Wllker-
son: one brother, Mr. G. W. Israel;
one sister, Mrs. C. W. Wiggins; one
step-son, Mr. T. S. Wilkerson; teu
grandchildren and a host of other rel
atives to grieve for her.
Her body was laid to rest by the Bide
of her husband In the Sniithvllle cem
etery. Funeral services were conduct
ed by Elder W. T. Everette, of Daw.

Plains, Ga., April 27.—The prelim
inary contest In declamation by the
members of the seventh and eighth
grades of the High School was held
before a large and appreciative audi
ence last Friday evening. The pupils
acquitted themselves with credit to
their teachers and the school. Five
speakers were selected from the num
ber. who will compete for the declaim
ed' prize at commencement.
The judges on Friday evening were
Messrs. Ed. Mathis and E. A. Nesblt,
of Americus, and J. L. Tilley, of Crox-
ton's. The judges named as the suc
cessful candidates Carrie and Cath
erine Oliver and Leila Bacon, of the
eighth, and Lucy Kate Clarke and
Theresa Walters, of the seventh
grades.
Commencement is announced for
May 22 to 24. and promises to be un
usually Interesting this year.
The aunual sermon will be preach
ed on Sunday, the 22nd, while on Mon
day evening, bes'dcs the declalmers'
contest, there will be a prize contest

On Tuesday afternoon following the
