The reasons for this decrease In aring trees are many. In some In necs the producers cut down thwlr aeh trees to make room for cotton tiling two years ago. n other cases many trees were ntod last year succumbed to st ies of scale and other blights and to be cut down. This particular farmer, remarkable as it may appear, was not a believer in good roads, and kicked strenuously when asked to give a narrow strip from tt«e outir edge of bis farm for the new road, when It was built there. And here Is the cream of the story. Up to that good hour he had offer ed his farm of three hundred acres for 230 an acre, but did not find a purchaser. Thirty days ago the road —a good road—was built upon the edge of his farm, and at not th<e cost of a penny to him. A few days ago he refused an offer of |40 per ac c for the same farm which he could not sell for 930 six months ago, an ad vance of $10 per acre In value, or a total gain of $3,000.
