idy encounter.
10 duel took place in front of a
y stable near the Seaboard Air

been caused by the attention of
igrove to a sister of the Mercer
tors. Far some time past, it is
d. .be Mercer boys have objected
e visits of Snellgrove to their sls-

is reported that the affair of
day was discussed between the
nts of the parties thereto on Sun-

apid succession. Snellgrove and
ton were taken at once to a local

.Marion county was all stirred up
Monday over the killing ,-f three ue .
Shoes and a murderous assault ou a
well known white citizen that promis
ed to result In his death.
Three distinct tragedies marked
Sunday and Monday In tho vicinity of
Buena Vista.
At Brantley one negro killed
another. This grew out of a Saturday
night frolic and was the minor of
tho three tragedies.
The affair that aroused the most
intense excitement was tho literal
carving up of Mr. I. w. Turner. ,
well known prosperous farmer liv'lo
about five miles from Buena Vista, by
his cousin, Will Turner.
From tho Information brought to
Americus last night by parties di
rect from tile scene, it appears that
Will Turner lived on tho place with
his cousin. They had some misunder
standing on Sunday about tho amount
of provisions that Will Turner was
entitled to.
Yesterday morning while I. W.
Turner was at work in the field Will
Turner came up and renewed the
discussion, resulting in his making a
frightful assault upon Ms cousin with
a sharp knife after knocking him to
the ground. Will Turner, who was a
muoh younger and much stronger
man than I. W„ was literally slashing
the latter to pieces, when Mrs. I. W.
Turner, was drawn to the scene by
the cries of her little boy who had
gone to the field with his father. As
she approachod Will Turner threat
ened to kill her If she Interfered and
contlnued'to gash his victim.
The sc reams of hte wlfo and son
then drew a daughter to tho scene
with a gun. Seeing her coming with
a weapon Will Turner cut I. W. Tu
ner a couple of more times and fled.
By the time a doctor could be se
cured I. W. Turner was almost dead
from loss of blood It was doubt
ful if he would survive. A posse
citizens was formed and went
search of the assailant.
While Buena Vista was all stirred
up by the news of this crime, added
to the report of the negro killing,
news came of another tragedy In
which a negro had killed two women
Jim Holland, a negro living on the
Statbam place, between Dranevfllc
and Friendship, had killed his wife
and her mother. He then barricaded
himself in a cabin and threatened to
kill any one who approached.
A possee was sent out after him
with the determination to take him
dead or alive.

Tho Frlcker store Is larger and more
