Atlanta, Ga., May 1G.—That the li quor forces of Georgia have already commenced to lay plans for a power ful campaign in 1911 to get the pro hibition law erased from the statute books is the firm belief of the lead ers of the Georgia Anti-Saloon League. ‘ They will not tackle the legisla ture thfis summer," said J. l). Rich ards, secretary of the league, "be cause at the last session the legisla ture went on record as favoring the prohibition law. But when the time comes for candidates to enter the field next year the liquor men are going to put as many men in the raco as they can, and when the general assembly meets in 1911 they are going to concentrate all their influence on both houses in an effort to get the law repealed. Meanwhile, the Anti- Saloon League is merely waiting— as we will not make a move until they do.” At the state convention of the Flor ida, Anti-Saloon League, which meets at Jacksonville next week, Mr. Rich ards will make a complete and thor ough report on the prohibition law in Georgia, covering every phase of its effect. He is now right busy compil ing and getting In shape a desk full of data obtained by correspondence with state, county and municipal au- thoritles in every section of the stat#. His figures show, he claims, that drinking and crimes directly caused by drunkenness have been reduced 50 per cent. In Georgia by prohibition, and that pauperism has been decreas ed substantially. The law Is as wall enforced, he declares, as any other prohibitive law touching on moral questions. He believes it Is better enforced than the law against con cealed weapons. The law is on the statute books for good-, and he pre dicts that any effort to have It re pealed or modified will fail.
