The pear crop throughout this sec-
lion will amount to about one-third
of Its usual sized crop, due to the
cold weather, to bad seasons and to
the blight. The crop for the past
few years has paid very well and the
growers here have been looking after
the'r trees more carefully than In a
long time. Up to a week or two ago
the crop was very promising, but since !
that time the pears have been shed
ding, and the outlook Is bad for them.
The cantaloupe and watermelon crops
also are In had shape, due to the dry
weather and the cold nights. If the
melon growers had had a good rain
after the recent cold weather they
could have counted on a largo water
melon and cantaloupe crop, but the
season has been bad all tho way
through and the outlook now Is that
tho cantaloupes will not yield ns
much as was expected two weeks ago.
