Score another i>olnt for the Amerl *aajs Jloard of Trade. uSome people labor under the idea Jhat it Is not a working organization i\s a matter of fact It never loses an opportunity to put In an effective Slick Tor Americus. i\s a result of its invitation, the Kut dowers’ Association of Georgia -.lnd .Tf.orida will hold its next annual rxnteiing in Americus, In May, '1911, the < late* to be set by the executive com mittee of the association. At that time anywhere from 250 to ' -lot) nut growers and those interested da tb< industry will gather in Amor - >cns for a two or three day’s session. Another great opportunity to adver tise Americus and Sumter county. The majority of the nut growers art practical agriculturalists, men well up no: only on nut g-owing, hut m other lines of business. Coming from various parts of this state and of Flo ida, it will be a magnificent oppor T tnnlty to let them, and through them ’thousands of others, know about this city and the great country surround in* It. Tkte Nut Growers' Association met this year at Ocala, Fla. The meeting this year was held In conjunction with the Florida Horticultural Society. Mr. IH SI. Smlthwick, of Americus, was in attendance, and to him was sent an -official telegram, from Pie3ident Jno. "W. Sit ver, inviting the association, in ’the name of the Board of Trade, bold it s next meeting in Americus. Seveal cities were after the con- arention. The telegram from the Americas Board of Trade was read to tie convention by the president of tire mssocia ion, -was backed by an elo Tinenf : peach from Mr. Smitkwick, tell ing th. m what Americus and Sumter -icounty had to show them. Who iirst ballot settled the contest. Amcri us was overwhelmingly select ed. At the meeting at Cairo last year there were between 200 and 300 mem bers and others present. Since theif there I as. been a great 1 expansion of interest in nut growing throughout ■Georgia. Florida and Alabama. By proper handling many can be brought •ironi all three states. It will not he amrpris'ng if there are over 300 in at- 1 "benflnuce at Americus next May. And yet some people, even In Amcri- " teas, don't appreciate that the Board ’til "Prate Is always at work for iiSBericjs and Sumter county. CHAIRMAN SHEFFIELD WILL PROBABLY AI1END Expects to Meet Georgia Road Builders. Chairman Frank Sheffield, of the Board of County Commissioners, is figuring on attending the sessions of the Georgia Federation of Boad Au thorities at Savannah, on June 10. Unless unforseen contingencies arise to prevent It he will be among the enthusiastic road builders of the sta e assembled in that city at that tine for the purpose of enchanting experiences and studying the methods that a - e be ing pursued in road building in this and other states. Judge W. F. Eve, of Augusta, is president of the feder ation. At :he last meet'ng of the federation held in Atlanta a resolution was unan imously adopted urging that Die boa- J of commissioners of each county the state provide at the county’s pense for a: least one delegate to the meeting of the federation. President Eve has called the attention of the va rious boards of commisisoners to tb s resolution. The Interest in good roads, partle ularly in Georgia, has been growing for some time. This is to a large ex- tent due to the work of the automobile men who have urged the Importance of better highways. Naturally when roads are made passable for autos they are plaoed In excellent shape for the use of farmers and others who are now greatly Interested In the success of tire good roads movement. The work In behalf of good roads has not only been carried on vigor- usly In Georgia, but equal interest has been shown by the road authorities in the other states of the South! Since the abolition of the convict lease sys tem In Georgia the convicts have been placed at work upon the road3 of the various counties, and the result of their work has been shown In re ports received by the State Prison Commission, which hav> In every in stance been most satisfactory.
