Ylcoserelt came borne today. He was
-•given an enthusiastic reception, with
vtaning guns and cheers, both on
land and water. An imposing parade
and marine display marked the home-
coming of the former president.
Immediately opon lading. Col.
Roosevelt delivered an address in
which he pledged himself to put_b!s

problems that now confront the na
tion. He uttered no word as to his

New York, June 17.—Col. Theodore
Roosevelt today refused to take ad
vantage of his position as special am
bassador to the funeral of King Ed
ward, which would have allowed b n
to bring in his baggage tree of duty.
He made his declarations to the cus
toms olficers like any .other citizen,
and arranged to send a check for the
duty on bis possessions as soon as ths
bill is rendered. As .an aid to the
customs agents, Col. Roosevelt had dic
tated three typewritten pages of a let
ter explanatory of the dutiable goods
