The exposition management gave it
splendid position and in arrangement

The exhibit covers nearly 30,000
square feet, giving practically one font

Thirteen negroes—the unlucky 13

Thirteen "felonies'’ on trial, and on
ly three of them escaped, ten of the
hunch being convicted. ,
Such was the remarkable recor t
made, as it is rather unusual for
such a large proportion of criminal
cases tried to result in convictions, as
in this instance.
Judge Z. A. Littlejohn convened
the court in special session Tuesday
morning .and three days were thu*
consumed. ' All the cases docketed
were felonies, including three or four
for murder, several' for rape, robbe'-y
and almost every other crime in the
category.
Of the ten negroes thus convicted
and sentenced, eight will do time on
the Sumter county chalngang, whilo
two go to the state penitentiary.

Upon the face of the consolidated re
turns of the legislative primary of
August 23rd, Mr. Ferguson, one of
the four candidates running, had a
plurality' of only two votes over Mr.
J. E. Mathis, by whom the contest
was made.
Mr. Mathis, through able counse',
alleged certain irregularities at two
of the county precincts, wherein it
was shown that several voters had call
their ballots at precincts other thau
those in which they resided, although
registered where they voted.

crop reporting committee of the Na
tional Farmers’ Co-Operative and Edu
cational Union estimates the crop or
short staple cotton In 1910 in round
