Americus National Bank Building. When a bevy of thirty pretty young iris from the Third pistrict Agricul tural College here swooped down up on Warlick Bros', store yesterday all the balance of Americus femininity moved uneasily,‘thinking tint another embroidery sale had gone into blast there unannounced. But the occasion was far more im portant than a bargain stampede, such as Americus has witnessed in recent seasons. The pretty girls were after suits; net the expensive tailor-made article, j reachlri hut the prettier college uniform which every girl student at this colleg- will wear hereafter. They had come to have their measures taken. And the lady attendants at the store got . usy quickly. The college uniform is to be a corn- bin, ition of back and white, with stu dents' cap to match, and every girl out there will appear a dream of lnv- liness when thus arrayed. While pret ty and attractive, the uniforms avr not expensive, and the innovation wiii impress all favorably. The order for uniforms will h ■ rushed to completion, and ere long the college girls can be distinguished to their pretty suits. The matter of uniforms for all stu dents at the college, male and female, was determined upon some time ago and as soon as the girls had final ' setled down -after the opening of the scf.iool the order was given. The male students have been uni formed for two years now, and th- young men are delighted with the dis tinguished appearance presented when the three companies of cadets go on drill or parade. The students of no college In Georgia present a h-and- staier appearance. The college cadets have two uni forms, the regulation brown khaki and the dress uniform of Confederate gray. Every student attending the col lege is required to wear a uniform and drill with the three companies, and the military spirit and regulations is of vast benefit. The college band of twenty pieces is attaining perfection, and will soon delight the people of Americus with good music. While both dormitories are filled to capacity, Supt. Collum has managed to provide for all of the 150. students are enrolled this season, the greatest number In the hlstoTy of the college. The cars representing tie Macon Telegraph and the Augusta Chronicle were not far behind the Constitution car, reaching Americus before 2 o'clock in the afternoon. In his account of the trip, Mr. Wel don quotes Mr. Candler as saying: "I have never rode over as fine roads as somo of these in Houston Maccn, Schley and Sumter counties,-' he exclaimed. “I did not belivee there were such roads in Georgia. The peo ple who go on the October tour will he amazed at the progress these mid dle Georgia counties are making in road construction. The roads from Atlanta to Macon are good, but these south of Macon are superb.” Candler set the pace at 50 miles an hour from Ellaville to Americus and reeled off 14 miles In nineteen min utes, and that included railroad cross ings and slowing down after reach ing the city limits of Americus.
