HIS ( HUM IN DEVILTRY IS LANDED IN JAIL Clements Says td Jones Has Pal. Admits He Was Shot While on Porch of the Wheeler Home-Both Coons in the Cage. THAT LETTER IS STILL LOCKED IN HIS SAff Gov. Brown Will Retain Smith Letter. Sees No Reason Now Why Contents Should Ever Be Revealed at All. The Facts About Pennia. For letters of Administration. Freely confessing that lie was stan 1- ing upon the verandah' of Mrs. W. \\. Wheeler’s residence and working at the window blind when Capt. T. L- Simmons put a pistol ball in his ab domen, Cliff Clements, charged ukn numerous burglaries here, implicates another coon, one Ed Jones. Following Clements' confession the officers made haste to string Jones as well, and the precious pair are now in the county jail, but occupying se~ arate cells. Clements’ confession, with his pos itive identification by other parties here, assuree him a term in the peni tentiary, it would seem, and his broth er, Bill Clements, also convicted of burglary, may go at the same time. The numerous burglaries here re cently and attributed to Clements, had caused a state of terror in many households, and any citizen would havc- esteemod it a.privilege to have had a shot at him. Fully twenty burgla- ries h»ere recently are laid at C et meats' door. Besides these, he is already under bond for one or two previous burglar ries charged to him, and seems good for a term in the pen. So frequent were the nightly raids during the past two or three weeks that it was difficult to keep pace with all. These burglaries were of the most daring character, and of a na ture that pointed very strongly to the fact that more than one black scoun- dred was engaged in it. The bullet planted In Clements’ bread basket Is still there and may yet, happily, save the county the ex pense of trying him. Mro. Jacob Wllmert. Lincoln, III-, found her way back to perfect healtlv She writees: "I suffered with kldnc, trouble and backache and my appetit' was very poor at times. A few week: ago I got Fo ey’s Kidney Pills and gave them a fair trial. They gave me great relief, so continued until now I am again In perfect health.” Sold by John R. Hudson. (Special to Times-Recorder.) Atlanta. Ga., September 23.—Go?. Brown lias broken silence about that mysterious letter which ho wrote to the then Gov. Smith and which was followed by his suspension from the office of railroad commissioner. He talked about It with several newspaper men, but would not divulge Its con tents. He declared there was not a word in it but that might with propriety be sent to a public official. He said he might make it public If the occasion for doing so ever arose but that he did not at present anticipate such an oc casion. •No mortal eye but mine has ever seen that letter.” Replying to statements made by Thomas E. Watson In his speech las; night to the effect that Hoke Smith still owned the Atlanta Journal and used it as he saw fit, the Journal pub lishes correspondence between Editor James R. Gray and Mr. Smith m which both make emphatic denials ot the charge. - nr. Gray says it is false, and ex- Gov. Smith declares he never owned uiiv interest in the Journal or in any way influenced or controlled Its poli cies since he sold It in April, 1900. . When questioned about W atson s statement that he stated authoritative ly that Gov. Brown would accept the office of governor if elected to It -m the regular October election, Gov. Brown merely replied: “I have been an organized democrat ati nay life. I stand on that record. I do not think it necessary to make a statement every time anything like this comes up.” DR. BABUSES WAS CALLED BY BUSINESS TO CAIRO Is Parana an alcoholic beverage in disguise* Isit po^ bl eto use PeroM a, a subS for whiskey? Do?eople bay Peruaa and use it as a tdy, or * ^It'would be ttie easiest thing in the world for any one to demonstrate the falsity of such statements. Let any one go to the tie of Peruna. Let him undertake to use it as a beverage, or take this P doses considerably larger than those prescribed on the anv^ne^CTi^and see!^ be alcoholio intoxication? Nothing of the sort Let any on try . j Pernna is a medieal compound quite heavily loaded with medicmalin^^^ fonts. If taken in doses larger than prescribed it would p tet drag effect Noonecouldtakeitasabeverage. If any one doubts tewe rtate; Perunaprohibit its use as a beverage. It would be the easiest thing in the world for an. one to demonstrate this if th . e lp^v T a ' PLAINLY Peruna is sold everywhere. THE INGREDIENTS Aius rhuinui PRINTED ON EACH BOTTLE. It has been said over and over agam that ebemistshavo analyzed Peruna and found it to eontain only cnbebs and whiskey Now we ohallenge any chemist to demonstrate any such statemen SSoufwho hM even a smattering knowledge of chemistry purchase® bottle of Pernna and see whether or not it contains whiskey, find °“t for hm self whether or not it is composed of cheap whiskey and cubebs. Of course, cubebs is one of the ingredients of Peruna, but there are many other ingred fonts It contains hydrastis canadensis, corydalis formosa, collmsonia, and at Bferafecss. J~aasgs££ 131 a jfow°why C are e these statements repeated when their falsity could bo so easily demonstrated? Simply because there is continued hostility toward Pe- r union the part of the medical profession. Very likely the magazines w^ch took up thecrusade against Peruna and denounced it as ft °^® a Pj^ e ”**>® milled hv statements of the medical profession. Probably they were sincere^ 1 thehfattitude towards it But now, after all these things have been said and refated, it would soem to he in order for such people to use a little fairness and common sense in the matter. . , ,., „ 0 _j Every any one says that Peruna is nothing hut cheap whiskey and cubebs he is telling a lie, an absolute falsehood. Most people intend to speak the truth. Bat the prevalent habit of repeating other people s statements, Shout investigation as to their truth, has led many well-meaning people to ° ay Used ^accOTding 8 tothe directions on the bottle, PERNNA IS A SAFE AND RELIABLE CATARRH REMEDY, but, like any other good medicine, if taken in excess of those doses, it will produce drug effects very unpleasant to 016 Ttfo'thewfoJSp to every honest person to quit making such statements roncemine Pernna, or acknowledge that he is repeating slanders about which he toS^otidng. One might just as well say that Castor Od is an.intoxicant; thatiftokentalarge enough doses it will operate as a ‘‘booze. If people mwtr tried to se^tort simply repeated such statements about Castor Oil, the m^oritv of neonlo would come to believe them. It is no easier to demonstrate ^Sltement ahout Castor Oil than it would he about Peruna. Anv one who takes Peruna knows that such statements are false. To say fbat Peruna is cheap whiskey and cubebs may constitute good material for SSL -n the vaudeville stage, but there is no excise for any one who pretends to be truthful saying ovsr again this oft-repeated falsehood.
