Crockett, of Tallapoosa, Ga., has arrived in the city with his family, having shipped bis household effects in advance, and as soon as some improvements can be made ai the house will take possession of 2C1 acre tract he has purchased through Allen & Crockett, from the Crockett farm. While haring tbe same family name the Tallapoosa. Mr. Crockett is relation to Mr. Duke Crockett, the former owner of the land in question. He was attracted to Sumter county by the reports of progress and pro perity here and decided to cast in his destiny with the queen county of Southwest Georgia. The purchase of the farm followed and he will soon be established on It with hits family. ’ Mr. Duke Crockett has also sold off 200 more acres of* 1 his farm to Mr. L B. Lott, formerly of Johnston, S. C. tut for a year past a resident ol Sumter county. Mr. Lott .purchased a small pla:e here, sold It, and has now reinvested in tbe 200 acres of the Crockett farm and 100 acres adjoining, giving Mm a compact 300 acre farm on which he will make Ms home. Mr. Lott is building a comfortable residence, and will otherwise improve the place. Mr. Crokett has an offer for the re mainder of bis farm. It will be either sold as an entirety or divided into two small farms. Probably tli latter will be the case, In which event four white families will be located near the city on a3 many farms whei there was one large place before. It is tbis sub-division of large tracts into small farms on which the white owners will live with their fam Hies that promises so much for tha future development of Sumter count,* and the consequent building up of the trade of Americus. Every farm that Is sub-divided, as the Crockett farm has been, and placed In the hands of three cf four white families, giving tbeir personal attention to its development, anj looking up their holdings as thair permanent home places, will assist materially In bringing Sumter county up to the position it should occupy as the leading agricultural county, not only of Georgia, but of the entire South'. The purchase yesterday of the Mims Corner" at Church and Leo streets by Mr. J. W. Hightower means the erection of a handsome three or four story apartment house there, in stead of the little frame structure con templated by the parties who bought the "corner" a few weeks ago. This latest deal was consummated yesterday evening, Mr. Hightower making the purchase for bis sister, Mrs. Clifford H. Bruton. Not only was the former Mims store property purchased, but with it the entire vacant lot of about 110 feet square, the other portion being bought of Mr. W. B. Hudson, who owned the north portion 'of tbe lot. Tbis is the most desirable vacant property on Lee street, that was on the market, and Mr. Hightower paid an excellent price for it. It is his purpose, as stated, erect a handsome and modern apar.- ment house there, and he will at once secure plans to that end. The build ing will front tbe two streets, and tho apartments, large and well arranged will b e ideal ones for families, or for single gentlemen. Mr. Hightower cannot state definite ly at this time just when these im provements will be made, but no un necessary delay is expected. It has long been his desire to see a big apart- men house on this corner, and expense will be spared to render the structure an idea lone.
