WHAT WILL BECOME 'OF 010 BUILDING? Atlanta Figuring On It for a City Hall. Atlanta, Ga., December 13.—What ever there may be In the movement to move tho state capitol from Atlanta fo Macon and whatever may be the out come of it all, there is but little to be learned to talking to officials at the state house. Efforts to learn something definite from them or get an expression of opinion have invariably resulted In small 'gains. Those that have been reading about it in the papers seem to think there is little chance for the project ever to succeed, while others frankly admit they haven't paid much attention to it. That Macon has all the advantage over Atlanta from a geographical standpoint, being located nearest the center of the state, everybody of course agrees, and there are few would not admit -that if the capitol were there it would be better than having it in Atlanta, taking statewide interests into consideration. And if the question of moving the capitol should be sprung at the next legislature which is not at all im probable there will to a certainty be numerous representatives who wif.l be right in for It from the jump. Hon Joe Hill Hall, of Bibb, for instance, would not surprise any one. least of all Atlanta, by throwing all his influ ence In,its favor. But because it would mean an enor mous expense to the state and would necessitate a more or less disorganiz ed condition of the state’s affairs for a considerable period and because the Immediate advantages to be derived would not be considerable, there doesn't seem to be any reasonable prospect of the capitor. being moved at least in the near future. Whether the capitol Is ever moved or not. however, it is interesting; to figure on what the state house would be good for in case it should. Pulton county will soon have to erect a new court house, and it may suit that purpose line. Or maybe Atlanta would have gTown enough by that time to make good use of it as a city hall. There was an immediate advance of from 34 to 39 points In the mast active positions in the future department. The department of agriculture re ported a total production of cotton as 11.428,000 bales. TAFT ASKS SENATORS FOR SPEEDY CONFIRMATION Of the Judicial Made Monday. •Washington, D. C., December 13.— President Taft, before today's session of the cabinet, conferred with Sena tors Hale and Lodge and urged them to .secure a speedy confirmation of the Judicial nominations sent to the sen ate yesterday. The senate yesterday aa a senatorial courtesy to Chief Ju3- tico White, who was once a member of that body, at once confirmed hi* pro motion. The president -wants the sen ate to act with dispatch and confirm Associate Justices Lamar and Van De venter, five Judge! of the-Commerce court and two interstate commerce commissioners. Atlanta, Ga., December 12.—That Railroad Commissioner C. M. Con-dler, or Murphey Candler, as he is more familiarly known, will be In -the rac< for governor two years hence, is foregone conclusion, acordlng statements of tils Atlanta, friends. Although iMr| Candler has never been a gubernatorial candidate, hiss been well advertised as a prob ability and a possibility ana other things they call them before. they get into the scrimmage. But Commissioner Candler, it may te stated event at this early writing, is getting ready to -be a candidate for that office In 1912. And he is the only candidate .whose features hmve yet loomed distinct enough on the horizon to be recog nized. There ore other shadowxwhtoh tee haze has not revealed, hut Mur- p'-.ey Candler is right there In the full line of vision. Mr. Candler, as is well known, is a prominent supporter of Hoke Smith and his principles, or at least most ct them. But it has heed said by well known members of the other faction in Geor gia politics that Mr. Oanliler is the least prejudiced and tte most open- minded and conservative of the pro gressive leaders. Mr. Candler is held in the highest esteem by those of true opposing fac tion and -he has friends among tiem who hw.? declared they iwould support him despite his well known polliic.il alliances. He wa3 appointed to the -railroad commission by Hoke Smith upon tho r-s:gratinn of ' Commissioner Fu-ltl; Calloway, and be has since bee® elect d for the remainder of the unexpired term and for the full term of six years to follow. Mr. Candler lives in Dtcatur, De- Kalb county, and practices law in At lanta. for he has time to which keep up his practice, not being c: roan, and he is not required to give his full time to the duties of -railroad commissioner. There has been some talk of 1.1; en tering the race for senator, only -n case Gov.-elect Smith does not run, but so far as can be lecrnei it is only talk. Atlanta. Ga., December 12.—Tho novel sight of a Methodist past whose wife Is suing for divorce, -and to whom the court has ordered -him pay alimony and yet who is occupy ing the pulpit and is in good standing with the church, is that occupied bv Rev. 'Bailey’s petition, anti their 10-year-old son takes the side of the mother. (The suit for divorce has -not yet been tilled and the case has only been gone Into to a sufficient extent to en able the court to pass upon a claim for alimony, whin hwas awarded at <20 per monthi on a temporary basis. (Nevertheless -the suit was on file with allegations of mistreatment when the North Georgia conference met at Athena. And yet when the namo of the Rev. J. Savannah, Ga., December 13.—The four congressional districts In South Geo'gia furnished more than haflf of the increaso of population in Georgia during the past ten year*. These districts are the First, Second, Third and Eleventh. Their contribution to the state's growth was 10,348 more than that ol the seven other district* combined, in cluding Fulton county and the capita?. The actual Increase was 201,569. This -wonderful showing fulfills pro* dictions that South Georgia was mak ing a runaway race in growth as com pared with other sections of the state. Some of its counties show very large increases, evidently Its cities all are growing, white the counties which have none of the larger citic3 show very aoad increases. The census figures arc sufficient rea- m for a very boastful attitude on the part of South Georgia. It has been long suspected that this 'part of the state had 'begun to come into its own and that it was setting a pace that would be hard to follow. The figures show that every partldle of that expectation -was grounded fact A .Simple Safeguard for Mothers. Mrs. D.
