Roosevelt owes that Washington' D. C.. December 22.— The unprecedented action of a legis lature withdrawing a. ‘ favorite son" from statuary hall in the United States capitol may occur in the ca3e of Ala bama. Reports have reached Washlngti to the effect .that at the forthcoming sessiou of the legislature an effort will bo made to rescind the action of th legislature by which the statue of the late Dr. Jabez Lamar Moore Curry woa placed lu statuary hall. The sta tue has never been formally accepter! by congress. 'Such acceptance, how ever, is only customary and is not re quired by law, the statues of Gen It. E. Lee, Pere Marquette and several others having the same status. The law authorizing the depositing of two statues from each state in the Hall of Fame at the capitol vests the state kith the sole right of determining whose statues shall be placed there. Some Alabamians contend that Dr. Curry Is not a “typical" representa tive of that state, that the matter was acted upon hastily by the legislature and Influenced In no small degree by the fact that Dr. Curry’s widow paid for the statue. Instead of the expense being borne by the state. A statue of C.eorg& Smith Houston, governor, congressman and senator, a prominent figure in ante-bellum and reconstruc tion days. Is advocated by some Ala bamians for the niche now occupied by the Curry statue. Alabama has only one statue In the hall—that of Dr. Curry, it n said that the one remaining vacancy will be filled by the legisalture making an appropriation for a statue of Senator John Tyler Morgan, the grand old man of Alabama," who did more than any other single American toward tho development of the Isthmian canal. It is stated here tonight that Governor- Elect O'Neal will recommend this in his message to the legislature. Dr. Curry, whose statue now* stands n the capitol, was not a native of that state, having been born in Georgia, but for he moved to Alabama with his father at the age of 13 years, then went back Ion calling on the to Georgia to complete his education and the White*nnd returned to Alabama to practice 'ks, papers or re-; law. 'Good, then," said the kaiser. "Since no teacher can or will so speak Christ spoke, I believe that Christ was not only a man, but the true God." The paper adds that tho conversa tion lasted for upwards of an hour. The quotation referred to by the kai ser was written by him textually in a Bible which he presented recently to the garrison church at Strasburg. The passage ends: “Whoever remains In me and I In him produces much fruit, Inasmuch a* without me ye can do nothing."
