application of Rear Admiral Barry for
retirement has been approved by Presi
dent Taft and he has been transferred
to the retired list of the navy. The na-

gram from Rear Admiral Thomas, who
appointed to command the Pacific fleet
as successor to Adbiral Berry, saying
he had assumed command. The i;

The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Edge,
who passed away Wednesday evening
at her home, five miles east of Amcr-
lcua, was conducted yesterday at the
Lutheran church near Oglethorpe, ami
attended by many friends of thlc city
and sectiou. Mrs. Edge was probably
seventy years of age nnd is survived
by numerous relatives here, besides
her three sons and sister, Mrs. W. W.
Childers, of Shelby county. She was
the park and cemetery.

suggestion was made that a loaded re
volver be sent to the admiral’s cabin,
but this suggestion was lost on a vote.
The officers present then took an oath
of secrecy on condition that Admiral

quested retirement. After that fact
became know’n the subject matter
