Official Paper of Taliaferro County.
CRAWFORDVILLE, MCJI 13, 1003.
The Dublin Times is a hum
mer.
We have one consolation: The
blackberry and watermelon time
will soon be here.
Taliaferro county should raise
chickens and eggs enough to
keep western meat from her bor
ders,
The ‘’Greater Georgia” move
ment is going to be a big thing,
Crawford vlile and Taliaferro
county should be sure to get
somepf it.
The Darien Gazette hopes that
the next president invited to
Georgia will be a Democrat.
Same here, but not of the Clove
land variety «
A great many people would
like to see Grover Cleveland
president just one more time.—
Darien Gazette.
All the blind people would.
Nearly every town in Georgia
is now on a boom. Darien Gaz
ette.
But Crawfordville is booming
ahead of any of ’em.
Tim Fairburn News is clamor
ing for better sidewalks. It
wouldn’t be a bad idea to have
better sidewalks in Crawford
ville.
The Milledgeyille News
claims to have a statement from
a South Carolina cotton factory
which claims to be netting 300
per cent, net profit to its stock
holders.
At a meeting of enterprising
citizens in Dublin a few nights
ago <P 1,000 was subscribed with
which to advertise the advan
tages of Dublin and Laurens
county.
The Savannah Press speaks
of I he present Taliaferro court
house as having been the edifice
where Alexander Stephens prac
ticed law. Evidently, Editor
Stovall has never seen our hand
some new temple of justice.
We believe Tom Loyless is
furnishing a columu of para
each day for the Journal and
the Constitution. At least wo
haven't noticed any difference in
the Journal’s editorial para
graphs since Tom left that paper
for the Constitution,
Wo take the following from
the Washington county grand
j uiy presentments:
lu taking leave of of his honor
Judge H M. Holden, we desire to
thank him for his splendid
charge to this body, as well as
for the able, efficient and eour
teous manner in which he has
presided over our court. Al
though one of the youngest of
the circuit court judges-of this
state, the lie is unquestionably one
of ablest and most impartial
judges in Georgia, and we con
gratulate the people of his own
circuit in ttie possession of a
judge of such sterling qualities.

CONSUMPTION
SHOULD EXTEND DOWNWARD,
Could not the men, whose vary
large wealth under their con
trol, do more for the world in
| some other way than by giving
money by the hundrdd thousand
or half million to colleges?
We think they could. There
is a more pressing demand for
help from those who aim no
higher than a common school
education than there is from
; those whose ambition aspires to
the culture imparted by univer
sities.
Would millionaires who have
it announced every few months
that they have made large be
quests to colleges, place some otb
the money at the disposal of our'
county boards of education, they
would employ their wealth more
benillcently.
We advocate the liberal en
dowment of higher seminaries.
We rejoice at the thought that
foundations are being laid all
over the country that will ad
vance the civilization of our peo
ple for centuries to come—bnt
we want the civilization to ex
tend down.
Mr. C. R. L. Sherrer, of Union
Point, in writing to this paper,
says:
“I congratulate you on the
improvement of the Advocate
Democrat. I am glad to see old
Taliaferro advancing. Eho is
not a dead county by any
means.”
We appreciate Mr. Sherrer’s
kind words and can assure him
that Taliaferro is a live wire. To
bo honest about it, she’s been
awake some time.

KIND WORDS.
“Kind words can never die,” is the
truthful burden of a song intended for
children.
It would be well if each one sings the
words with lips would have them im
pressed upon the heart. But it would
lie equally well if the young would learn
that harsh, unkind words are as imper
ishable as the kind. Many a hitter,
sarcastic speech inflicts a wound that is
never healed. One cannot he too care
ful about repressing the angry utter
ance that rise fo the lips. Should it go
forth it may do a work that may never
lie undone.
“Count twenty-five before you speak”
was the advice given to the very pas
sionate gill, “Tattycoram and it is ad
vice which older and more sensible per
sons may profit by taking. The larger
number of unkind words would never
be spoken were a little time taken for
reflection.

Colds are Dangerous.
IIow often you hear it remarked: “It’s
only a cold,” and a few days later learn
tlmtt'ie man is on his back with pneumo

that a cold, however, slight, should not be
