two theories offered for the al
most disappearance of the blue
bird. One is that they were
killed out by the heavy freezes,

driven out by the pugnacious
English sparrow.

The Methodists of the Sharon
circuit are contemplating the
erection of a parsonage On their
lot just below the Presbyterian
church. When the matter of
building such a house was men
tioned at the last quarterly con
ference the Sharon contingent
agreed to build a parsonage at
Sharon. However, nothing has
materialized at that end of the
circuit. There is a small amount
in the treasury, but if a house is
erected the members will have
to get a move on themselves.

Hurt in a Most Peculiar Manner.
Mr. C. W. Lawrio, q piano
turner and painter, was badly
hurt in a most peculiar manner
Friday afternoon.
He was standing at the cross
ing just above Chapman’s shop,
watching a freight train speed
by. Just as the engine reached
him the ash pan was thrown out.
It struck him on the skb, knock
ing him down. His hand was
also bruised considerably.
The injured man was I taken in
charge by Dr, A. G. Beasley, and
under his skillful treatment, is
fast recovering.

Takes His Owo Life.
Mr. Ely S. Powell, living
near White Plains, committed
suicide Monday night.
Ho went into a barn and placed
the muzzle of a shotgun under
his chin, pulled the trigger.
When found nearly the entire
head had boon 1 down away, and
the dead man presented a ghastly
sight.
No cause is assigned for the
rash act. However, it is said
Mr. Howell had been of unsound
mind for some time.
He was prominently connect
ed, being a brother of Repre
sentative Howell, of Merriwelher
county.

Death of Mrs, Corilla Jordan.
Mrs. Corilla .Iordan passed
away at her home at Winder
Monday night.
The funeral took place at
the old family burying ground
near Robinson Wednesday morn
ing.
Mrs. Jordan had been in bad
health for some time and her
death was not unexpected.
She leaves a husband and
four children to grieve for her.
She was born and reared in this
county, but with her husband
removed to Winder some years
ago. A good, Christian woman,
her death is a severe loss to her
family.
Fell From a Tree.
Henry McCord, the young son
of Mr. Joe McCord, was badly
hurt Saturday morning by fad
ing from one of the large trees
at his home.
lie landed on his head and it
was thought at one time his
skull might be fractured. It soon
developed that such was not the
case, however, and the little fel
low is getting along nicely.
