Want Convicts for Reads.
The hoard of county commissioners
of Floyd county passed the following
resolution at its last meeting:
‘‘Resolved, That this board requests
the representatives from this countv

Bar,k»r V/itham Again Indicted.
New developments have arisen in
the Warrenton affairs of Banker W. S
Witham in the shape of an indictmen'
against him returned by the Warren
county grand jury Saturday, though it
was generally supposed that the
charges against Mr. Witham had beer
satisfactorily settled.
Not very long ago he was arrested
on a warrent sworn out in Warrenton,
kept under guard of an officer in At
lanta and then went to Warrenton
alone to meet tho charge against him
there. On his return he announced
that a satisfactory settlement had
been reached in the matter which had
prompted the warrant, and it was
thought that tho incident was closed.
On Saturday, as stated, the grand
jury returned indictments against
Witham as former president and finan
cial agent, and E. B. Farmer, vice pres
ident of the bank at Warrenton, which
institution closed its doors in Febru
ary, J902, owing depositors some 316,
00 h The indictments charged felony

Telephone Company to Improve.
The Atlanta Standard Telephone
Company is to be made into such a sys
tem -as will actively compete with the
Southern Belle Telephone p.nd Tele
graph Company. Long-distance con
nections will be made, and the rival
company will go after the business
with energetic and active men behind
the service.
The head of the system in Atlanta
will probably be C. J. Simmons, for
merly president of tne Atlanta Rapid
Transit Company, who made a for
tune in the street railway business and
who is one of the most popular and
able business men in the city.
It is stated with some degree of pos
itiveness that it is not the intention of
the Standard company to engage in
a rate war with the Southern Bell, but
the company will present such a ser
vice as will render it. formidable to ^ the

engaged in silk culture themselves, bej
