noon, in default of $25,000 bond fixed
by federal commissioner G. H. Sims,
the defaulting bank clerk, was return
ed to the Tower to await trial.
—Five convicts escaped from the
Chatham county. Ga., chaingang Tues
day, after overpowering Guard Wall,
from whom they took liis pistol and
rifle.
—The Florida legislature convened
Tuesday and the democratic nominees
were duly elected.
—Sam Trace killed I.ogan Elam and
was shortly afterwards killed by
Elam's son at West Liberty, Ky..
Tuesday.
—Indictments for murder and carry
ing concealed weapons were found
against James Tillman, at Columbia,
3. C., Tuesday.
—Rear Admiral George E. Belknap
died Tuesday at Key West, Fla., of
apoplexy.
—It now seems to be established
that Arthur R. Pennell robbed his
clients of $200,000 entrusted to him.
—Americans returning from Hondu
ras allege that a United States consul
is being held by the Sierra forces for
ransom.

son has been elected mayor of Chica
go, his plurality over his republican

—Marines were landed at Santo Do
mingo Sunday to protect the American

— State board of education decides
to have a census of the schools of
Georgia taken during the months of
June, July and August.
