Vets to Decide Reunion Date.
The executive committee of the
Georgia Confederate Veteran’s Asso¬
ciation is to meet al an early date
lo -~o!de when the state reunion shall
be held at Macon.
The suggestion lias been made that
it ought to be held during tin- Georgia
fanners’ fair and live stock exposition,
but there is some objection lo this, on
the ground that the veterans would
rather enjoy themselves with each
other during their reunion, and not
have their attention divided by a big
fair.

Goes Into Public School Fund.
In an opinion which he is preparing
at the request of State School Com¬
missioner \Y. B. Mievritt, Attorney j
General John C. Hurt will hold that :
the money received by any county in
the state as its share of the convict
hire, in the absence of any recom¬
mendation by the grand jury on the
subject, must go into the public
school fund.
This decision will prove a very im¬
portant one to a number of counties
in the state, where the grand jury has
taken no action in the matter, and
whore, on this account, the county
treasurer Is holding up the money un¬
til it is officially ascertained to what
tse it should be put.

Assessments Greatly Increased.
The sensational developments in the
tax returns from Worth county, cul¬
minated in tlie calling of the special
term of the superior court over which
Judge W. N Spence presided, at
which the grand jury was called to¬
gether to receive the report of the
special committee appointed at the
fall term of court to examine into the
tax returns and make report.
The committee reported that they
had carefully gone over the digest of
tax returns, and to their best ability
and knowledge of facts, assessed val¬
ues on every lot or parcel of land on
which they could procure information
and entered their assessment, in red !
figures on the digest opposite the re
turns. This assessment increases the j
value of real estate alone in Worth !
county $1,454,971.

Farmers Urged to Hold Cotton.
President M. L. Johnson of the
Georgia division. Southern Cotton As¬
sociation, urges the planters by all
means to hold their cotton until after
the planting of the new crop has been
completed, as that will demonstrate in
a measure what the future price is to
be. Bays he:
“The farmers should not under anv
circumstances let any cotton loose un¬
til after the planting of the new crop.
It will then be ascertained positively
that the acreage is going to be re¬
duced, and t he effect on the price must
surely be felt.
"Every man who sells his cotton
now is putting it in the hands of the
bears who sold future contracts last
year at 9 and 10 cents and they will
in most Instances pocket the profit
on it.
“Neither Mr. Price nor any one else
can deny tljat the Southern Cotton As¬
sociation is established on a firm busi
noH: foundation, nor will any one dis¬
pute that if cotton is held until it is
known that the acreage is reduced, it
\yjjl be bound to go up in price.
“The farmer who sold cotton last
week has already lost from a quarter
to half a cent a pound, on t.he ad¬
vance which it. has made since that
time. Those who hold their cotton will
reap the profit on it which, if they
: sell it now, will go into somebody
j else’s pocket.”
