CORN VS. COTTON.
In one of our exchanges, The Farm
and Ranch,” published at Dallas, Ttx.,
we find the following article compar¬
ing the profits on cotton and corn,
which we commend to the careful con¬
sideration of Georgia farmers:
By Wm. Robertson.
Most of your readers are farmers,
and ’tia fair that they should some¬
times discuss the best methods of suc¬
cessful farming. We wish to show
in this article that corn is a better
paying crop than cotton. We give
each more than an average price, but
it’s fair for each. We put corn at 35
bushels to the acre and cotton at half
a bale. Corn at 40 cents per bushel,
cotton at 8 cents. We note result as
follows, cotton first, making our calcu¬
lation that a farmer can cultivate and
gather twice as many acres in corn
as he can in cotton, which all will ad¬
mit.

The man who raises corn has three
months to pick cotton for the man who
raises cotton. I allow nothing for
marketing corn, for there is always a
demand for it at the crib at that price.

“Nursing dairy calves” is a new bus¬

cannot afford to raise calves. The
milk is Yvorth more to sell. After a

to some farmer who has a hand separa

on warm skim milk and grain and
sends them back as yearlings.
An encouraging fact in forest man

of large timber land owners to handle
their holdings less wastefully and to
protect the forests with the view to a
continuous yield of timber.

“I used Cascarets and feel like a new man. I have
