Something About the
Marriage oi Sanford.
There was much interest man¬
ifested here iu the verdict of
the Sanford jury Mr. and Mrs.
Sanford were married in the
Methodist church at this place,
The contracting parties
were Baptists by inclination
but the Baptist church was in
course of construction, and the
ceremony was performed in the
Methodist, church.
The bride had been boarding
with Prof' aud Mrs. V. T. San¬
ford at Liberty Had and attend¬
ing the Stephens High School.
The bride was Miss Elizabeth
Levevett. of Morgan county.
She had been here a month pre¬
vious to the marriage.
It is told here that Mr. San¬
ford met his wife in a very ro¬
mantic manner. He was fox
hunting iu Morgan county. In
some way he lost l is bearings,
lie rode up to a fri'in houso lor
the purpose of inquiring the
way out, aud was given the de¬
sired information b a handsome
young lady. He role off a short
distance, but was •><> impressed
with the girl’s beauty, that he
immediately went buck and
introduced himself And asked if
he might visit her.
It seemed io be “love at first
sight’’ with both, and the affair
soon developed int> courtship,
and marriage as above stated.
The marriage 'occurred about
t he time of the farmers’ fight on
the jute bagging ti ist. Cover
ing for cotton bales, as well re¬
membered, was made out of cot¬
ton. Some of this kind of
cloth was spread, arpet like,
the entire distance of three or
four hundred yards, from Lib¬
erty steps to of the
chnrch. This fealrro of the
marriage was discussed for
miles and miles around at the
time, and when the ceremony is
talked of now, it is always men¬
tioned.

Announcement, to tho public by
State Chemist McC and loss regarding
*Prof." Llpp’s formula:
It has been reported to me that par
'ilea trh© are selling to the public the
right to manufacture a fertilizer for
mtrla compounded by “Prof." Mlchaci
Ldppn, have stated that I endorsed this
formula, anrl also that I have analysed
It, and that it runs t(M-4. I wish to
state, in the most emphatic manner,
that I have not analysed this formula,
and that, according to the terms oi
the formula itself. It Is Impoesible tot
it to run 10-4-4, and that Its oompoei
tion is more nearly 1-1-1. Further¬
more, that if the reports which I r*
ceived are true, the parties selling this
formula are attempting to swindle and
deceive the agricultural public.
I do not approve of the formula. II
ta not scientific, and I am ready to fur¬
nish a better formula free of all coal
to any who are interested In the mak¬
ing of compost, and who will apply to
the Agricultural Department.

Our Present Wheat Situation.
The present wheat situation in the
United States was the subject,of am
address by John C. Williams of Waish
lBgton before the recent meeting oi
the Association For the Advancemenl
of Science. According to Mr. Wil¬
liams, an increase in the consumption
of wheat has gone steadily forward in
tliJa country since 1901, while the pro¬
duction has declined, so that at. pres
dnt, temporarily at least, the home con¬
sumption and the home supply Just
about balance, leaving but little for ex¬
port. Roughly stated, the wheat crop
of 1.904 is 552,000,000 bushels, against
638,000,000 in 1905, and 718,000,000 in I
1901.
