titled‘‘A Lonely Crave in the
Forest.’ In commenting on the
article the Progress Says it is a
scholarly propuetion, and is well
worth reading, both for its his¬
torical and literary merit.

We believe the gubernatorial

very close, and at this time no

The Juror3 are
In las charge to the grand
jury, Judge Holden paid a very
pretty tribute to the jurors of
Taliaferro county. His honor
said that he had often heard
other judges who had presided
over the Northern circuit, say
that the verdicts of Taliaferro
county jurors were as much
above criticism as any county in
the circuit, judge Holden sta¬
ted further that when people
were quick to impugn the hon
esty of purpose of a grand or
traverse juror, that they, inva¬
riably, were not right them
sel ves.
His honor might have gone
further and said that this was
invariably true, not only of
people who impugn the motives
of jurors, but of people who are
not under oath. Whenever a man
is quick to impugn the motives
or intentions of a person, when
he has np proof to sustain his
contention, it is a mignty good
idea to keep an eye on him. He
will bear watching. He is a ‘‘bad
egg” and, therefore, measures
other people by his own stan¬
dard.

Birthday of the
County Court.
The County Court of Talia¬
ferro county is one year old to¬
day.
It began its existence at a time
when most needed, and has
grown, until today, it is a pow¬
erful adjunct to the Superior
court in the adjudication of rights
and wrongs.
Viewed from a monetary basis
it h;ts cost the county three hun¬
dred aud thirteen dollars in
money more than it has turned
into the county treasury in
money.
But it has disposed of 75 mis¬
demeanor cases, thereby saving
the cost of the time that would
be required by the Superior
court to try these eases.
And when \ ou save time, you
save money.
At best, the Superior court
disposes of but 15 misdemeanor
cases a day. To dispose of 75
cases would require at least tive
days. But it costs one hundred
dollars per day to run the Supe¬
rior court, and when you stive
the county five Superior court ji^g |
days, you save the county
hundred dollars. j
In faeG since its existence, the’

The County Court is not an

into the treasury, but it is an in¬
vestment that prevents expendi¬

without the treasury,
Superior
Court Last Two Days.
Taliaferro Superior Court con¬
vened Monday morning, his
honor Judge Holden presiding.
The judges's charge was one
of his usual strong efforts.
On account of the illness of
Col. Hawes Cloud, nearly all the
cases in which lie was interested
went over till the next term.
This caused the court to reach
the criminal docket by noon on
Monday. However, it was not
anticipated that this would be
the case and none of the wit¬
nesses were present, The court
disposed of a few divorce cases,
while waiting for the witnesses.
On Tuesday morning the crim¬
inal docket was tackled in earn¬
est. Following is the disposition
of cases, civil and criminal:
Augustus Reid vs. Celia Reid,
