Philippines with the United
States army. When mustered
out. lie secured a position. Soon

present he is president of a
nourishing Manila bank, and lie |
is said to be worth $50,000. All
this was accomplished in a few
years.

Saturday night about 8 o’clocck
A small negro boy was driving
the animal, attached to a wagon
from Caldwell’s ginnery. Tho
train and horse appear to have
| , met on the t rack at the same
time. The horse and part of the
wagon were landed in the ditch,
with a gaping wound in tho ani¬
mal’s side. The boy was left in
the rear part of the wagon, and
it is miraculous that he wasn’t
killed. The woman valued the
animal at $125.00, which the
road will, no doub 1 pay.
