W. R. Reid Sells His
Interest in the Hotel.
Messrs. Gee A Taylor have
purchased Mr. W. th^Hohlc.r-ReTd R Reid’s one
half interest i
hotel property. The amount paid
was $7,000.
For eighteen years, Mr. Reid
has conducted a hotel at Craw¬
fordville. adcl has built for him
self and town a reputation second
to none in the smaller cities of

Mr. A. J. Allen, of Augusta,

Miss Gertrude Holden left

having her throat treated.
Some lint cotton caught on fire
at Caldwell’s ginnery Saturday
morning, and for a time it looked
as if the entire ginnery would go
up in flames. However, the tire
was extinguished without much
damage.
Mr, Lee Hill dropped iu to
see us this week, renewed his
subscription to the Advocate
Democrat, and informed us that
His potatoe crop was very fine.
He gathered some that weighed
eight pounds,
Mr. K. M. Jackson has moved
into his new .store near the City
Hall, He invites his friends and
the public generally to give him
a call when in need of fancy and
family groceries, canned goods,
tinware, etc.
Mr. and Mrs, E. IL McCauley
left this week for Stillmore,
Emanuel county, where they will
make their heme, and Mr. Mc¬
Cauley will merchandise. We
all regret to see this good couple
leave our community.
Mr. J. A. Chapman was up
from Garfield recently, and
dropped a dollar in the slot for a
renewal to the Advocate Demo
'crat. We are pleased to know
that he is prospering in Eman¬
uel. But that trait is character

Mr. L. S. Jones returned last
week to his home in Kenton,
Term., after a visit to the home

Mr. Joseph Perkiffs has sold
his home and 00 acres of land to
Mr. C. W. Caldwell, the consid¬
eration being $1,450, the latter
also agreeing to pay Mrs. Lavi
cey Perkins the sum of $25 the
remainder of her life. Mr. Jas.
Moore will reside at the place
another year. Mr. and Mrs.
Perkins are thinking of moving
to Atlanta.
Mr. William Reid, who recent¬
ly graduated from a business col¬
lege in Atlanta, passed through
here last week, on his way to
Blakely, Ga., where he has ac¬
cepted a position. He writes us
to send him the'Advocate-Demo¬
crat—that he can’t do without
it ‘‘eveu one issue. ”
Mr. John Ii. Burke, the bril¬
liant editor of the Augusta Her
aid, was here Monday for a few
hours. Mr. Burke has been
spending several days at Sharou
with relati ves. He is not only a
line journalist, but a whole-soul¬
ed, genial gentleman.
Judge Holden is selling his
Berkshire hogs at a low price
now, in order to reduce his stock.
Those wishing any of these line
hogs, should not lose this oppor¬
tunity to get them at once. See

Messrs. T. F. Hollis and son,
Mr. John Hollis, and Mr. J. W.
Curtis, of Rutledge, have been in
the county this week, surveying
lands which they have recently
purchased.
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Bonner
will move this week to the homo
of Mr. O. P. Bonner, where they
will reside another year. They
have been living in Wilkes
county.
The many friends ot Mrs. R.
E. L. Harris will be glad to
know that she is doing nicely at
a sanatorium in Atlanta, where
she is receiving treatment.

These young men speak in the

and its good people, and of the
hospitality and attentions shown
the party while there.

Mrs. Mar.v G. Griffith, sister of
Mr. G. S. Griffith, died at Gray
moot, Emanuel county. Inst Fii
day. The deceased formerly re
sided in Taliaferro county,
and had many friends, who
will regret to hear of her death.
Mr. G. S. Griffith went down to
attend the funeral.
Mr. O. M. Saggus has had a
very nice monument placed over
the grave of his parents. Mr. and
Mrs. John Saggus, in the city
cemetery. Mr. John Saggns was
a Confederate soldier. It is but
fitting that his grave and that of
his good wife should be marked
by a suitable monument.
The young people were <le
lightfuHy entertained Friday
evening by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
A. Rhodes. The decorations
were suggestive of Hallow’eon.
In the rear hall, behind the por¬
tiere, was the fortune teller, who
revealed the future to the happy
guests; Hallow’een games were
enloved until a late hour, after
which dainty refreshments were
served.
We had an old Confederate
soldier to say to us Wednesday
that he would have to quit tak¬
ing the Advocate-Democrat be¬
cause he wasn’t ablo to pay for
it. Wo told him he should not
do without it on that account—
that we would make him a pres¬
ent ofit. If there is any other
old Confederate soldier in the
county, who wants the paper,
but will say to us that he is not
able to pay for it, wo’ll give it to
him free of any cost.
For a limited time we'll send
the Advocate-Democrat and the
Chicago Daily Review, each one
year for the small sum of $1.50.
