yurpose of being admitted to
the practice of law.
It was Miss Daisy Bently who
was married to Mr. Jeff Sturdi¬
vant. We stated last week that
it was her s ; ster, Miss Pearl
Bently, who had become Mrs.
Sturdivant.
Rev. Benjamin Graham will
now be presented with another
opportunity to build a parsonage
on his new circuit. He says he
found it very hard to secure a
house.
A committee from the Bermu¬
da Sunday school, composed of
Messrs. J. ri. Jones, W. B. Jones
and Miss Mamie Jones, drew
up some very strong and appro¬
priate resolutions on the depart
ure of Mr. John T. Cooper to
other fields of usefulness.
The literary entertainment
and musical concert, on Friday
evening, will be a most interest
ing and enjoyable affair. The
proceeds will bo devoted to the
catalogue fund. No doubt a
large audience will be present.
Exercises will begin promptly
at 7:30. Admission: Pupils of
school admitted free; adults, 25c,
Children. 10c.
The resignation of Miss Evie
Davis as teacher at the Stephens
High School will be learned with
regret. For several years she
has had charge of the interme¬
diate nepartment of the school,
and has given entire satisfac
tion. She has many friends here
who trust that she will soon re
gaid her usual good health and
return to resume her school du¬
ties among those who hold her
in such high esteem.

Five negroes were arrested
Afonday, charged with tho burn¬
ing of the residence of Mr. D. S.
Stewart several weeks ago.
They are Robert Williams,
Will Nowman, Augustus New¬
man, Charlie Williams, Clarence
Miller. They were given a pre¬
liminary hearing on Tuesday be¬
fore Judgo Andrews.
All the negroes were bound
over on a $350 bond.
