Mr. Thomas E. Beasley of Covington
spent Hunday with home people and
friends here. Tom says he has a good
position, and likes it very well.

Air. W. P. Hubert was compelled to
get leave of absence this week on account
of the seiious illness of Airs. Hubert, but
we are glad to say she is improving at

The Washington base ball team crossed
bats with the Sharon boys yesterday
(Thursday) at Sharon. Will give the re¬
sult next week.
Airs. S. J. Yeomans of Leesburg, is
visiting her cousin, Mrs. J. A. Beazley.
Miss Rebecca Bristow was the charm¬
ing hostess at a lawn party at Liberty
Hall Friday night. Delicious refresh¬
ments were served and a delightful time
was spent.

A straw ride was very much enjoyed
by the members of Aliss Marcia Holden’s
house party Friday night . It was given
by Messrs. Tom Asbury and Fred Reid,
complimentary to the guests.
Airs. Alinnie Battle Allen has returned
to her home at Sharon from a lengthy
stay at Atlantic Beach, N. J., where she
has been spending the summer. Her
health is considerably belter since she has
been away.

Mr. Garret, son of Air. Charles H. Gar¬
rett, of Wilkes county died in Alabama,
where lie has been making his home some
years, a few days ago. The corpse passed
through Crawfordville Tuesday en route
to Wilkes where it was buried.

Death of Mrs. A. S. Cooper.
After an illness of several
months, Mrs. Cooper, wife of
Dr. A. S. Cooper, died at her
home at Powelion Tuesday night.
Her. death was not unexpected,
but it cast a gloom over a large
circle of friends and relatives
which is hard to dispel. The
Advocate - Democrat extends
heart-felt sympathy to the be ¬
reaved ones.
