An Obituary.
Only n few weeks ago, the Angel of
Death shadowed the home of Mr. J. H.
Qooger and bore away the spirit of his
son, Wesley, to fairer climes.
And again on July the Kith the same
sombre wings of death bore nwsv the
spirit of his dear wife, Mrs. Rosella Uoo
ger, after weeks of suffering and pain.
She was boru Nov. 3rd. U>67, and was
married to Mr. J. H. Googer Doe. 83rd,
1885. She is survived by her husband
and three children. Let us cherish the
hope that she has been reunited with her
son, who preoeded her to the tomb by
only a few weeks. Death is the common
lot of all humanity from which no price
can purchase exemption. Deatli to the
human mind is a mystery, and while we
cannot compraheud the Great Beyond in
this life, yet,
“In that City bright,
Our eyes shall see the past by clearer
light,
And tilings long hidden from our gaze
below,
Will there be revealed, and we shall
clearly kuow.’’
Home after home is darkened by death.
One by one is consigned to the grave, to
which we are nil fast hastening.
May the bereaved husband and chil¬
dren, whose home has been made desolate
by this sad dispensation of God’s provi.
dence, look to Jesus for comfort, who
alone can soothe the aching heart and
wrap up the broken spirit.

MRS. NANCY REID DEAD.
On last Monday evening,
about half past two o’clock, Mrs.
Nancy Reid fell asleep. She
had not been as well as usual
since an attack of lagrippo about
two months ago,and those near¬
est to her could tell that she was
failing, but even up to Saturday
night before she died Monday
she was able to sit up aud walk
about the house. During the
week preceding her death she
seemed to be failing faster than
usual, but it was not until Sun
day morning that it was appar¬
ent that the end was near. She
seemed to be almost unconscious
the greater portion of the time
after the noon hour Sunday. If
she suffered a great deal it was
not apparent to those who watch¬
ed by hor bedside, but she grad¬
ually sank away, and finally
went to sleep as peacefully as a
little child.
Mrs. Reid was at the
time of her death the oldest per
son in Taliaferro county, being
<j 4 years 5 months and 13 days
old. She was born on the 7th
day of March, 1812, not far from
White Plains, in what was then
Greene county. On the 7th of
February, 1828, at the ago of 15
years aud 11 • months, she was
married to Mr. William Reid.
They were blessed with 13 chil¬
dren, only three of whom survive
their mother, Mr. Reid having
died a good many years ago.
The three surviving children are
Col. Jas. F. Reid of this place,
Dr. li. J. Reid of Toccoa, Ga.,
and Mr. Alex 11. Reid of Eaton¬
ton, Ga.
The total number of her de¬
scendants is about 125. The
greater portion of those, ex¬
cept the children, are still living,
and theso with a host of friends
and othor relatives mourn her
death.
At the age of 20 years, in the
summer of the year 1831, Mrs.
Reid united with the Baptist
church at this place, and was
baptized by the Rev. Jonathan
Davis, who was then pastor of
the church. With the exception
of about a year her membership
continued with this church the
entire time until her death. Few
indeed are there who have the
record behind them of 74 years
of such faithful Christian service
and fortitude as she. It was her
request that no funeral sermon
should be preached at her death,
as she often said that her lifo
was her sermon. A grander ser
mon was never preached than is
preached by such consecrated
lives of the fa'thl’ul followers of
the Mastor. And it can truth¬
fully be said that hers was one
of the grandest of the grand.
Mrs. Reid may have made mis¬
takes, as all mortals aro prone to
do, but her entire Christian life
was ouo of devotion to her Mas¬
ter, of loyalty to her God, and of
reverence&iobedieuce to the Giv¬
er of all good. Her trust never
waverod, and her constant pur¬
pose) was to do His will,
During nor lifo she roared
nineteen children: thirteen of
hor own, and six of hor grand¬
children whose mothers died
while they were quite young.
Though her death was not un¬
expected—for she had lived her
alotted time- yet it is haul to -
pare with one whom wo have
loved so long. But to the bereav¬
ed loved ones we extend our
deepest sympathies, believing
that their loss is her eternal gain,
and commending them to tho
Great Comforter and Guido to
soothe broken hearts and point
the way to tho land where wo be¬
lieve she ever lives to welcome
such as will so live as to meet
her there.
Messrs. Jno. B. Green and T.
B. Sales of Washington visited
Crawfordville Sunday afternoon.
The protracted services at the
Baptist church were closed Wed¬
nesday evening. There were
several baptized.

church will have a reception

vited.
