The bitter strife has ended.
The long contest has cotne to a
close. The riugsteru and pro¬
fessional politicians have been
routed. The people have
triumphed.
Never before was such cam¬
paign waged in Georgia. Naver
before were such deep laid
schemes concocted to defeat the
great common people. Never
before was greater victory for
the masses against the classes.
In spite of abuse and false rep¬
resentation, in spite of vitupera¬
tion and slander Hoke Smith has
been nominated. In answer to
the trumpet blasts of their cham¬
pion the white men of Georgia
marched to the polls on Wednes¬
day, and with a storm of ballots
swept the way to victory.
In no uncertain tones the white
citizens of Georgia have declar¬
ed themselves in favor of con¬
trol of corporations by law; in a
voice of thunder the Anglo-Sax¬
on men of this state have declar¬
ed for white supremacy.
The will of the people has
been expressed at the ballot box,
and now it only remains for the
gether to enact into laws the
principles upon which Hoke
Smith conducted his campaign.
Without public sentiment to
back it no law is effective.
With such an overwhelming
Hood of public sentiment it should
be an easy matter to enact and
enforce such legislation as will
insure just treatment of the pub¬
lic by the railroads iu Georgia;
with an undoubted determination
for white man’s sullruge unham¬
pered by the negro voter such
disfranchisement laws as will bo
passed should be easily enforced.
The professional politicians
who have so long dictated gov¬
ernmental affairs in Georgia have
becn.bidden to step down and
out and the people are determin¬
ed henceforth to rule iu this
N t a to.
Now. there are some good, hon¬
est, patriotic, broad minded
gentlemen who are members of
the Democratic Executive Com¬
mittee of Taliaferro county.
There are others—but wait.—
We explained iu last week’s
issue of this paper why au ar¬
ticle prepared by a few members
of the executive committee was
not published. The readers of
this paper will recall that the
article was cue relating to Mr.
J A. Beazley.
Yesterday. Thursday, after
noon when he was
for the purpose of securing the
consolidated primary returns
Taliaferro county, the Secretary
of the Executive Committee
stated that he had been instruct■
ed by the Committee not to furn¬
ish the Advocate Democrat the
returns of the election unless the
article relative to Mr. Beazley
was published by this paper.
The editor of the Advocate-'
Democrat is not in the habit of j
being FORCED to do things
even by executive committees.
The above explains why we do
not give the official returns of
this county for Wednesday’s pri¬
mary. We do publish the re¬
turns from the county with suf¬
ficient accuracy to satisfy all.
The humorous feature of the
action of the Executive Commit¬
tee is that they seem to think
the Advocate-Democrat will be
deprived of its very life by a res¬
olution of its members. But it
is not this paper that is harmed.
The only possible interest we
could have in securing and pub¬
lishing the consolidated returns
as made by the committee is to
give tne news to the citizens of
Taliaferro county, showing the
vote by precincts. The citizens
are the ones who are interested.
It is against the citizens that
they have sinned. This resolu¬
tion of the Executive Committee
reminds ono of the action of the
fellow who cut oil his nose . to
spite his face.
Some time in the future we
may see lit to publish the article
concerning Mr. Beazley and
comment upon the same. But
the Executive Committee has
not the power to COMPEL, us to
do it.

W W Pilcher moved that the
number of executiue committee¬
men from each county be increas¬
ed from 1 to 2. F B Shipp
moved to substitute the figure 3
for 2. The substitute was adopted
The delagates from each comi¬
ty met and decided as to who
would compose this committee.
They reported as follows:
Warren—C M Churchill, F M
Harrison, W V Kinsey.
Greene—Dr J F Wilson, H W
Jernigan, F B Shipp.
Taliaferro—Hawes Cloud, W
H Murden, J. Ruff Kendrick.
It was suggested by Mr Shur¬
ley that by courtesy the chair ¬
manship of the executive com
mittee would go to the county
furnishing the nominee; that this
had been the former rule.
W W Pilcher moved that this
convention reaffirm its allegiance
to the Democratic party, and en¬
dorse the candidacy for Presi¬
dent of the peerless and match¬
less leader, William Jennings
Bryan. This motion was second¬
ed by F B Shipp and commented
upon by various members of the
conventiou. The motion was
enthusiastically and unanimous¬
ly adopted.
A vote of thanks of the con¬
vention was extended the chair¬
man and secretary of this con¬
vention.
The convention then stood ad¬
journ ed.
