Now, our editor is perhaps the
only writer la the state who could
make “eighteen-hundred-and eigh¬
ty-seven” rhyme with “heaven"
and not feel lug over the achieve¬
ment. And yet a friend who makes
no pretensions whatever to rhymes,
suggests an improvement upon tliis
and gilds the refined poetic gold in
this couplet:
“Will you not now, in 1HS7,
Choose the road that loads to heaven?"
by adding these lines:
“But if you wait
'Till eighty-eight
You’ll be too late.”
We accept the amendment with
thanks.
