When Blaine returns to this conn
try, he will go to the Pacific slope
and tell his friends that Harrison’s
nomination is all right. The impres¬
sion will get out that Blaine will be
secretary of state, the power behind
the throne* the real boss of the ad¬
ministration, and the fight will be
conducted on that line.

A Little Hoy ijangled by a Train
on the Georgia Midland.
Griffin, Ga. June 29th.—The Geor¬
gia Midland train ran over a little
tlurteen-year-old colored boy, nam¬
ed William Evans, here today. The
train was backing up to thedepotofi
one track, while the Central train
was coining; up on another from the
opposite direction. Some say the
boy ran on the track just before the
train struck him. Others say that
be was standing in the center of the
track with his face away froin the
approaching train. One of his legs
was cut off - , one foot mangled, and
a hand mashed. The train hands
did all in their power to stop the
train as soon as he was seen, but it

-A SAD AFFAIR.
John Hast who has just passed
through the uper portion of Macon
county, says that two or three
months ago, a very intelligent look-

old farmer for work, and as he need¬
ed a hand ho employed him. The
young man gave his name as Aire
and said he was from Missouri, and
he was a very good field hand. The
old farmer had an only daughter,

A BATTLE WITH MOONSHLN
i ;ius.
Little Hock Ark., June 28th.—A
desperate battle occurred between
revenue officers and moonshiners
near Black Springs, Montgomery
coupty,yesterday. Internal Heven
ue Collector Frye and and posse
raided a moonshiners camp in the
vicinity, destroying three distiller¬
ies. Shortly afterwards the bOSHt*
was attacked from ambush by an
armed hand ot moonshiners. A re*
gular battle ensued, in which Depu¬
ty United States Marshall Tram¬
mel I, was killed. Collector Froye
has telegraphed to Fort Smith for
reinforcement.—Telegraph.
OCR WASHINGTON LETTISH.
From Our Regular Correspondent
Wasnington, June 29th. 1888.—
Verily tjie Republican mountain
hath brought forth a mouse. The
party which elected Lincoln, the
rail-splitter. Grant, the tanner., ttnij
Garfield the tow-path hoy and
which lias so loudly claimed, to bo
the people’s party, and friend of the
“mudsills,” etc. hits taken a new de¬
parture this time they have select¬
ed a member of the blue-blooded silk
stocking aristocracy to head their
ticket, whose only distinction is
that he is the grand-son of his grand
father, and have hitched oh to the
tail a New York banker, whose on¬
ly distribute around liperally dar¬
ing the campaign.
Harison and Morison is a <qupejr
kind of a ticket to ask a working
man to vote or, but of course the
Republican managers expect the
support of thosands of the wage-
workers of the country. The ques¬
tion is will they they get them”
Time will tell. If the Chinese had
votes they would poubfle'ss be solid
for Harison.
The democrats in Qongress arc
much pleased with the republican
ticket, as the following opinions
show: Senator McPherson- - It a
very weak ticket. In the first place
Ilarisoh 1 ms no element ol popu¬
larity in the country; second, his
Chinese record will lose the Pacific
slope, and I do not see how he can
hope to carry any doubtful state.
Senator Butler- - - The nomination j
is the weakest the republicans could j
possible have made Harison poses-
ses no personal popularity, and has
no claims to statemanship. I serv¬
ed with him for a long period on
the committee on territories, know
him well, and am certain that he
posesses no element of leader-ship.
Senator Harris-- - Harrison is as
good a mfin as the Democrats could
have desired. If we cannot bent
him we cannot heat any body. Sen¬
ator Faullner---Harrison is a weak
man. I caiipot see how a u.an de¬
feated three or four times in his own
state can hope to be elected. Repre¬
sentative Biggs- - - Harrison will
not stand a goast of a show. Cali¬
fornia will go democratic, and Cleve¬
land and Thusman will be elected.
Representative McAdoo- - - That
ticket cannot carry New Jersy.
Cleveland and Thurman are now
certain to be elected. Representa¬
tive Burns---The republicans have
blundered. I presume they don’t
expect, seriously, to elect that tick¬
et. Represenative Frank Lawer—
I don’t see how any laboring ipan
can vote that ticket. But enough of
liiis. The above is sufficient and is
the general reflection of tho opinion
of every cemocrnt in Congress.
The Hou^ehas passed B*" public
lands bill, with ail amendment re¬
taining title in the Government tq
coal mines fouud on tlie public lands
but allowing entiyinen fo mine
such coal deposit until Congress
acts further in Hie matter.
A new style of bandanna has
made its appearance among dem¬
ocrats here. It lias portraits of
Cleveland and Thurman in the
center, with mi eagle and the
American shield in each porner.
Mr. Cleveland was on Tuetday
officially notified of his nomination
by the committee appointed by the
Chairman of tjie St Lquig
tion. lie responded in a few well
timed remarks, and stated that he
would communicate lurthcrwith
the party at large shortly by
ing his letter of acceptance. ’lift
committee wentto Columbus Wed-,
nesday evening t notify Mr.
Thurman.
An amuseing incident occurred
at tlie White House Tuesday. Mr.
Leroy Springs, a member of
the notification committee from
South Carolina, during a conversa¬
tion with Mrs Cleveland, remarked
that South Carolina would give tlie
l’reident 40,000 mejority, but that if
tlie woman suffrage people would
nominate lier, she would reeeivethe
unanimous vote of the state. But
said Mrs. Cleveland quickly and
laughingly’ I’m not that kind of a
woinan.
The fight ftir revenue reform is
again raging in the House. Tlieie
will be qo rest until a final vote is
alien upcil the Mills bill. When
hat will lie is at present extremely
-
doubtful.
