We went down Friday to that
thriving, bustling little city, Amer-
icus and must say we were surprised
at the amount of business being car¬
ried on during such a dull season as
tlie month of August. Many clmng

goods for tlie tall trade, We were
shown around the compress by the
accommodating Mr. Stokes. 1 nis

mount of cotton this year, We
took a survey ofGlessner’s Imigra-

with such products as are grown in
F.mpirc State. It will be a novel
advertisement of Ga. and will no
doubt induce many to leave the fro-
zen regions of the Nortli for our
general climate, We received sev-
eral advertisements. Tlie people of
our sister city patronize the Enter-
prise more liberally than our own
home folks.

sermen, holding the closest atten¬
tion of the vast throng as he ex¬
pounded the great truths of the di¬
vine law, proving exclusively that
tlie “YVages of sin is death,” his for¬
cible argument made a deep and
lasting impression on every one
present and when in conclusion he
presented a crusified Savior as an
atonement for oursin, many were
melted to tears of repentance and
extended their hands to him in tok-

Tlie little son of Mr, Henry Tison
is very ill with fever; may his con¬
valescence he sure and soon.
The cotton crop throughout this
section is very badly damaged by
the rust though not withstanding
this, the crop will exceed last
peas, cane, potatos and gu-
bers were never better in tiiis sec¬
tion.
There is an unusual high price
on bagging this season and some
think it would be a a matter of econ¬
omy to buy ducking to pack their
cotton in instead of bagging, we
don't see any logic in this as bag¬
ging at tlie present price and wei’ht
will pay well for itsilf win n tlie cot¬
ton is sold while ducking or most
anything epse will loose.
YVe learn that us soon as arrant-
ments can be made there will be
organ iked a club known as tlie
“Farmers Alliance,” on the “Ridge”
it will not come any too soon, as we
need a Society here that will teach
us to make money and then lu>w to
spend it, will this not be economy?
