Mrs. Annie E. Cheney, daughter
of Rev. William and Mrs. Martha
Stewart was ’ 0 a in Sumter Coun¬
ty now Schley Co. Ga . J:in. 25 Js47.
She Joined the church when a child.
Was Married to Dr. J. N. Cheney
Dec.3, 1867 in the M. E. Church at
Ellaville by Dr. T. H. Stewart. She
died Sept. 17 1888 ami the funeral
services worn conducted by her
pastor Rev.C. D. Adams from the
name altar wli ere she stood a hap¬
py bride, -
The Church sh : aoniuch loved,
was the place of many fresh bap¬
tisms of the Holy Spirit, and sacred
memories hallow the House, con¬
nected with so much of her Chris¬
tian experience.
In all the relations of life she was
faithful ever hearing with patient
resignation anything which tended
to try her faitli look pig unto Christ
the author and finisher of the same
she ever came out conqueror.
Even to the last she desired to be
numbered among those iu our com¬
munity who are active in the Lords
work and so long vs life lasted her
name was enrolled upon the record
of the Parsonage and Missionary
In extolliug her many virtues
much could lie said but an incident
occurring at the time she visited
the Atlanta Exposition will suffice
to see tie life of Jesus manifested in
jher dai y walk.
Being urged by hir husband ,o at¬
tend with him ‘he 'J heatre she do
dined to go say I .g she bad consci¬
entious scuples about a member of
the Church goings to such places,’
and so visidly did she depict to him
how terrible It would lie to meet
Death there” either by flame or any
way in which distruction suddenly •
comes, he to declined t‘> go feeling
that from such a place” Heaven
could never be reached.“—
Cunitemplating a trip to Indian
Hpings “for her health, she first
thought •'lie would test her strong! h
by a visit to her parents, but rinding
t'ie cliauge not beneficial, she re¬
turned home, when as she express¬
ed it,” was the best place to receive
every attention necessary” till God
should call her Above.
She was the mother . f four ehii-
dren one of whom precede l her to
the better puid, w her together they
wait ami watch for all *lie loved
ones;—will you meet them? The
l ist Wed. afternoon of her life her
pastor admmistere l to her the
Lords Sup,i »r, and i . all of his min*

Her ,, dear , motlter, ,. wlm , .iad , . just . , ar-
rived was made to rejoice and ad
present could bat for the sacred
companionship of Him, who will
never leave or forsake His children
Going in to see her soon after, she
repeated to me the scene, although
weak, saying you ought io have
been here “turning to her husband
she asked,” did you partake with
8of the emb|ems of His
body and blood?” receiving an af-
firmative reply, she said ” That is
right never refuse sued a blessed
privilege . partake of it , In
lemem-
hramaof Him. wh. die I that we
live. Then dwelling upon His
goodness awhile slip exclaimed Oh!
I , never but three times experienced .
just what I felt this afternoon in
partaking of these elements I was
tilled with His glory - filled with
His ... very presence and. , hut , . for , weak ,
ness, I would ha\e h lu'.ed His i r.ii
ses aloud.
Though dissolution seemed near
she lingered several days
only for Intervals after that, did
she retain consciousness but throu-
all this she relied on Him who was
able to keep that which she had
committed to His care, and when
the end came peacefully sleeping
she fell into the arms of J esus with
out one struggle, scarcely, could we
detect the last breath here which
ushered her spirit into the habita.
tion of Him whom her s«ul loved,
May lier life be an inspiration to
her family to seek after
