jf'ctcal * p^#dm<t|4 The improvement in our mail facilities ys pleasing to everybody. Here it is the middle of November and vegetation still looking fresh and green. Mr. Joe Driver is happy over the arri val of a twelve pound democrat at his h ouse. Some of the finest beef ever offered in the Ellaville market was brought in Mon dav by Mr. Cone, our local butcher. We learn that Ellaville is soon to have a Jew store. This is a good sign that our little city is moving on. Jews don’t hunt dead towns. Mr. G. L. Massey is preparing to move out on bis farm next week. Dr. Harp will occupy the house that Mr. Massey vacates. Ida Jones, and Jerry Hausley, a pair of colored victims of cupid, called on jus tice Meadows Thursday night and* got married. Don't croak about your town and its prospects. If you can’t say something hopeful and cheery be silent. When you run across a croaker shoot him on the spot. Our mail facilities have improved won derfully during the past week, we now recieve and send off mail twice a day. This is another decided improvement for Ellaville. George Davis, Ellaville's colored mer chant and tonsorial artist has moved his store and barber shop into two of Mrs. Burton’s buildings on the South side of the public square. The Western Union Telegraph Compa ny has bought the line bet ween Buena Vista and Americus and are having it extended to Columbus. This will give Ellaville better telegraphic facilities. Pete Johnson, a notorious negro rough was arrested at Lacrosse, charged with arson, assault with intent to murder and almost everything else in the catagory of crimes. Sheriff Alien took him to the Americus jail, last week for safe keeping, Some of the finest turnips that we have seen this season were from the gar den of Mr. J. M. Thornton, who enjoys the luxury of both town and country, by living in town and farming in the country. The Marion County Patriot says: Ti e indications are that we will have tele phone communications between Ameri cus and Columbus and ail intermediate points, before many more weeks. This will prove a great convenience to the people. The contract for building the lower turnpike bridge across Buck Creek was let out Tuesday as advertised. Messrs S. M. Cottle and J. W. Dozier put in what the Beard considered the most favorable bill, and was awarded the contract at $394,95. Possum hunters carelessly set the Woodson fire, one night recently, and destroyed 1,200 bundles of fodder belong ing to G. J. Glanton, a colpre 1 tenant on Ih\ Steve Sellers’ plantation. Such carelessness is criminal and should not ke tolerated. There was a planter in town a few days 3go offering to put up as good securities as any one could ask, for the loan of one thousand dollars, hut as Ellaville is still w ithout a bank he bad to go elsewhere Dili consequently the interest on that money will be lost to the county. b. Caskey came near having a fire in lis Kin house Tuesday by the igniting O a match that passed into the gin with the cotton, Insurance on a gin house is tr emendious high, but the risk is too Ktcat for a farmer to take, better insure a few hundred dollars anyway. fiulumbus Ledger.—At last, a mail ser been secured for the railroad H'veen Columbus and Americus, via -’■.fiia \ ista, Postmaster Watt has re bed instructions to make pouches for U(, ha \ ista, Ellaville and Americus and (ib 'l-ateh daily «t 7:40 A. He will either land in the State Peniten tiary. furnish the subject for a first class hanging, or become a great republican leader. Last Saturday he was sent by our fish dealer, Mr. Homer Button, to deliver a string of fish to a customer. Late in the afternoon the customer came around enquiring for his fish and it was discovered that the little thief had car ried them to his own home. If the parents of this enterprising youth are not parti ceps criminis they had better take their hopeful offspring in hand. It is not generally known, but it is. never the-less. a fact, that one of the best patent medicines on the market to-day is put upright here in Ellaville- Forty years ago Dr. Henry Scarborough, one of our most quiet and unobtrusive citi zens discovered what is now known as Henry Scarborough’s Cough Drops.
