Mrs. Eliza Reid, an aged cititizen of this county and a most estimable lady, relict of the late Columbus Reid, died last Sunday night of measles, at her res idence three miles Southeast of Ellaville. In mentioning the amount of cotton seed shipped this season by Messrs. Mur ray – Williams it should have been one hundred and eighty eight thousand and thirtyfour pounds, or nearly six thous and bushels. We are glad to learn that the Ellaville High School is on the increase this week. A good local school is an ornament as well as necessity in every community and every citizen should feel a pride in keeping it up. Mr. Charles P, Davis, of Americus, came over on a brief visit Sunday. Mr. J. B. Williamson spent Monday and Tuesday in Columbus on business. Messrs. W. H. MeOrory and J. R. Wil liams . went up to Columbus Tuesday. Rev. D. J. Apperson of Poindexter, made us a pleasant pop call Monday. Mi. Ruberson, one of Americus’ build ers and contractors, was in town Sunday. Mr. H. C. Arrington of Sumter county was in town the first of this week visit ing his sons. Mr. Olin Dixon of Americus. spent Sunday with friends and relatives in Ellaville. Misses Mattie Whigham and Willie Bently of Cu sMa, arrived Monday on a visit to Mrs. IV. II. McCrory. Mr. Crookshanks lias been in town several days this week soliciting acciden tal insurence, for the U. S. mutual. Mr. Daniel M. Borum, for P. C. Clegg – Co., and Mr. Will Taylor, fora Savan nah house, were in town Monday solicit ing orders. Mrs. Cox, of Talbotton who has been visiting her son, Mr. Gus Cox, of this [dace, left yesterday for her home, ac companied by Miss Mary Cox. Misses Mitch Bolton and Ella Cameron contemplate leaving to-day for their homes in Americus. Miss Jessie Pea cock will accompany them. Mr. C. A. Marshall was in town yes terday circulating among his old friends. He has resigned his position in Buena Vista and thinks of accepting an offer in Alabama. Mr. John Jackson of Americus was in town this week. He came up Sunday, we presume, on important business of his own and stayed over Monday to soiic it orders for the old reliable grocery house of H. D. Watts. Prof. Merritt was among his Ellaville friends Saturday. He has closed his school at Richland and accepted a grad ed school at Zebu Ion to open in January. The enteevening time he is putting in profitably at surveying. Mr. and Mrs. A. Allen. Mr and Mrs. H. T. Arrington, Mr. and Mrs McCrory. Mrs. Hornady, Dr. Cheney, Messrs. Claude Dixon, Jeff Myers, T. J. Hixson. G. M. Greene, and W. J. Payne, and also Mrs. T C. Tondee, left, yesterday to spend a few days in Columbus. Miss Callie Law, who has been assist ing Prof. Cole at the Ellaville High School, left Tuesday for her home at Union Springs. Ala. Miss Bass, the Mu sic Teacher, wifi take her classes, we learn, through the remaindt r of this term and she will be absent until the be gining of the January term. Skinner of Columbus for building his new hotel and work will begin this week.
