The farmers all seem hopeful, and we

Representative Williams has secured
a position for Bailey Clark as porter in
the House, and will take him to Atlanta
when the legislature again assembles.
Bailey is an intelligent, energetic colored
man and will fill the place very accept
ably. He lias been an active democrat
ic worker in local affairs.
Nearly all the schools in the countv
opened up Monday. Every school house
is supplied with a good teacher.and with
County School commission Collum to
overlook the work, the cause of educa
tion will be on th« upward grade in
Schley county this year.
Prof W D Herring keeps abreast with
the times, nnd the schoc 1 at Elienezer is
one of the very best in all this section.
The pupils who have been under his
care reflect great credit on their teacher.
Col Williams entertains strong hopes
cf getting a pardon for Robert Heath.
He has a letter from the Captain of tlie
guards at the convict camp, testifyng
to the good conduct of young Heath
since his imprisonment, .tfith such
strong petitions as have been sent up
from this county.*, it is hoped that the
Governor will favorably consider the
matter when the case is laid before him.

Meagre details of a difficulty between
Ed Clark and Harry Hill have gotten
into the papers, although efforts were
made to hush up the affair, It seems

more gashes though the wounds are not
e msidered dangerous. It is not known
what started the row. Clark, who likes
nothing better than newspaper notoriety,

KING S DAUGHTERS CONVENTION
The King's Daughters of Georgia are
holding a convention in Macon this
week for the purpose of organizing a
state association. Mrs ldottome, of New
York, who Is known throughout the
literary world and whose beautiful
thoughts have been such an inspiration
to those who are working “In His
Name.*' is in attendance as well as
many of the liainiest women of the
state. Says the Macon Telegraph: "The
warmest welcome ever extended to
visitors will be giver to the noble worn
en ot the King’s Daughters of Georgia.
Why did not Ellaville send delegates?
Democratic Gains in Sell ley.
Mr J M Murray has handed ns the
following figures which will be read
with interest, and which clearly show
the drift of things political in this coun
ty. The great democratic gains will he
gratifying to those who have been so
faithf ul and persistent in their efforts to
save the county from populist rule. In
the State election the democratic major
itv was about 97, Crisp's majority 197.
In the election for county officers last
week the majorities ranged from 299 to
316.
Widows* Pensions.
Ordinary P E Taylor requests all who
are entitled to pensions to come forwar i
and fill out their applications so that he
can send them off all together as early
as possible. There are widows in
Sohiey county who draw pensions, but
up to date only have filled out the
papers.
Mr Dave Howard wifi probably move
his family to Ellaville to enter his chil
dren in our school. They will occupy
Mr Wm Allen's residence. Mr Alien will
move to the jail, Mr and Mrs Howard
will be heartiW welcomed should tiny
decide to become citizens of our town.
The attention of loose who expect to
apply for teacheis license, is calkd to
the notice of Commissioner Collum in
this issue.
Telegraphic dispatches gave warning

a party at Mr Tom Hudson's Monday
evening, and report a delightful time.
The Misses Glover entertained their
voting friends very pleasantly at their
home near Andrew Chapel last Thurs
day evening. A number went out from
Ellaville.
Miss Leila Arrington and Mr Homer
Chambliss were married at the home
of the bride’s parents near Shiloh Tues
day\ The hearty coneratulations of
many friends are extended the happy
couple.

Mr Carl Murphy is taking a fine stand
at Emory. He is very studious and
