Some Questions in Woman’s
Favor.
Communicated.
An obsci in P '. reader the
■jMy-k’.y papers ( '-ui hazily have
failed to notice the fact that the
defaulters, the absconders, or rob¬
bers are very seldom females.
None will dispute the fact that
ladies hold responsible places of
trust and handle large sums of
money. There are ladies who hold
positions as librarians, book-keep¬
ers and cashiers who fill their plac-
es faithfully and honestly; they
keep their accounts correctly and
pay others What is due them. Yet
it is very rare that we hear ol one
robbing her employer. The ques¬
tion naturally arises, Why is it so?
Do the men have more tempta¬
tions or do they have less strength
of character? I know that some
men-'Hfcive an idea that women
have not the need of as much
money as the men. And why not?
The working woman, as a rule, has
to provide a home for herself; and
how often it is the case that there
are little ones and aged parents
who must share ih the home and
be cared tor. Many a widow has
earned the dollars and cents, pro¬
vided for her children and keep
the home bright; self-sacrificing,
denying themselves the pleasures
and luxuries outside so .as to de¬
vote themselves more entirely to
the little ones who must not be
left to feel the want of mother,
I love artd home.
Are meri so self-sacrificing? Will
they s ; o easily give up tiicir luxu¬
ries and pleasures? Is it more
necessary for them to have the re¬
laxation which comes from belong¬
ing to clubs and societies? Is the
temptation any greater for them
to steal their employers’ money?
Does not the gold glitter equally
bright at all times and for all ages?
Doesn’t a woman know just as
well as a man what dollars and
cents ivili buy? Doosti’t she like
all of the glitter, the luxiiriousness,
the efise which nicfiicy brings?
Surely, for all generations the stig¬
ma of (pleasure loving, fashion-
.followers, money spenders, has fol¬
lowed the rianie'of wofnad,
