One of the main questions the ‘" m-v in re-art *’ to some men ’ is not what they , J live on, but why ' they live on. Mr. M. M. Quarterly Conference ♦ The 4th of the Jasper circuit, M. K. Church, South, will be held at this place embracing the 4th Sunday in Sep¬ tember. A protracted meeting will begin on Monday night before and close with the quarterly meet¬ ing. A man paid us fifty cents on subscription last week and Kufe ( Henderson has promised to bring' in a load of wood before cold weather. Verily our efforts are being appreciated. We do not mention this, however, as an in¬ ducement to other misguided mor¬ tals to enter the newspaper buei- ness, Several people from abroad have applied for board in Jasper this season who have failed to get any place to stay. There is no fisc to brag about our fine country and advertise it as a summer resort un¬ less people could get a place to board When they come. Jasper must have more hotel room. The hotels and boarding houses here have been full this summer. Cotton, For spinning and quilts. Price according to selection. Spot cash, as the cotton is not mine. Come at once. J. W. Gordon. Since the convention at New- nan, much enthusiasm concerning the next State fair has been devel¬ oped. The very liberal premium list has stimulated a spirited but friend¬ ly rivalry among our farmers, stockmen, fruit growers and gar¬ deners, as is evidenced by the in¬ creased number of applications from all sections of our own and adjoining States for space. The following is a partial list of the counties already entered for the ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR PREMIUM.' Wilkes, Columbia, Warren,Han¬ cock, Baldwin, Effingham, McIn¬ tosh, Liberty, Screven, Jefferson, Sumpter, Randolph. Houston, Douglass, Troup, Talbott, Pierce and Butts. Look at this array and recall the magnificence of the exhibits last year when only four counties en¬ tered, and it is difficult to conceive the immense benefit that such a lavish display of her agricultural resources will bring to the entire State. It requires but little reflection to convince anyone that tbe coun- ty that bears off the palm in this contctst will have justly won the ti- tic of “Banner County ” Will our county be behind? KCINTOSH COUNTY’S LIBERALITY. As an earnest of McIntosh coun¬ ty’s interest in the progress of our good old State, witness the follow¬ ing list of special premiums offered by her; For the best bushel sweet po¬ tatoes $25 For the best bushel of corn (for bread) in the car 25 For the best bushel of turnips any variety 10 For the best bushel field peas 25 For the best bushel ground peas 25 For the best 3 dozen stalks sn* gar cane 50 For the best individual exhibit of farm products SO F'or the best scuppernong wine not less than 5 gallon 30 F'or second best scuppernong wine, Hot less than 1 gallon 20 For the best geneial exhibit of rice ill all its various forms 50 For second best exhibit of rice in all its various forms 10 For the best bushel clean rice 50 F'or the best bushel rough rice $0 These premiums are open to any and everybody in the State of ^r ar “ umi,e " “ Gc,,r - It is more than probable these specials will be in created by other counties, and it wiil be in¬ deed strange if it does not produce such a host df individual exhibits a« was never seen in the State. 4 he management, although lib¬ eral with tbe farmer, has not been unmindful of the ladies and chil- dfen, and there is enough in their department to stimuhitB all their dflefgiUs.
