Jt ; . always well for a business
i; in to have good credit, but to do
his he should avoid using it any
more* than is necessary. Practic-
ally pay as you go is as good poli-
cy for tile buyer as any one can
for the seller. Few pen-
lo icalize how much their credit
costs them. It is by fur the dear-
luxury that they can keep, an 1
is what keeps mnn. men poor than
anyilung else. It is mainly the
c/edit which the country store ex-
peed; . to, aird is, perhaps, obliged
to give tha lakes it a clearer
place to trade than m the fit)
where tor casual customers credit
is impossible. Much more than
the legal rate of interest is added
to the price of the artii le where
credit is given. In reality the
honest man who intends to pay
his debts cannot afford to be
trusted. He is saddled with a
part of the losses of those who are
dishonest, in addition to the inter¬
est. It is better to borrow money
in a lump and pay inteicst on it,
and buy only for cash than to buy
on credit. Better still to do with-
out things until money is earned
to pay for them, The grocery
bill is in thousands of homes the

happened near where I lived way
back in the hfties. I lived next
door to Dick Tolbert. He had five
little brats. Dick went, off hunt-
ing 011c day and shot his leg. It
was mighty bad weather, and at
last the doctors had to cut off his
leg to save his life. He lingered
along for several months, and then
died at last. I was there the night
that he died. She took on mighty
bad. Some of the neighbors went
to her to console her, but it did no
good. At last l went to the seem¬
ingly broken-hearted wife, and
told her that j>oor Dick was gone
and told her it did no good to
‘‘take on” «d. I can’t help it,”
said she, and continuing, pointing
towards her children, said! “Just

Elder Martin Joins Tlie Church Again.
A Special to the Constitution
tinted f'antor. G;i., Aug. 4, says:
Klder M T. Martin, of
who has recently stirred tip SO
much excitement among the Bap
lists of Georgiy by preaching what
some claim to be a new doctrine,
anti which Dr il H. Tuckv :r. ot
the Christian Index pronounces .
"heresy,” has united with ll ie t.i \
tist churdi at. Woods!ock, iti this
county. Duric.tr last week ; : i.vu
deposed from f -lit 1 ministry by his
church in Wa< >. T was,. on the
grounds reaching an preacinng
a loctriiie at variance \;tii the cs-
tabiished lo et lines of the Baptist
church, out no -'..barge was made
or can be made against him as a
moral Christian gentleman, hence
he was only deposed from the min¬
istry, his church membership nut
being affected, He, however,
asked foj his letter, which was
granted, and on Thursday night
he placed it in the church at Wood-
stock, and was afterward licensed
by that church as a preacher. So
he has as much power as when in
Texas. A few weeks ago Klder
Martin preached at this place,
Woodstock and Noonday, at each
of which churches many were con-
verted at joined the church, At
Woodstock there were seventy
conversions, fifty-three of whom
were members of the Baptist
church at that place arid Noonday
were rebaptised. A number of
Baptist church members were also
rebaptined at Canton. In conse¬
quence of his preaching and the
new doctrine he seems to put forth
the Baptists are greatly stirred,
and ReV. Thad Pickett, of this
county, has taken it upon himself
to meet and refute the doctrines
of Elder Martin. The Noonday
Baptist association is now in ses-
sion at Noonday and it is probable
that some action will be taken on
this matter, a* it will be almost
impossible .,, to close . the .
without some ,ref«rpnc^ b.ei*f
made to it. Klder Martin, A. iR.,
Vaughan and others are present to
defend the doctrines preached, and
there arc also some of the best
men of the state present who do
not fully agree with Revs. Martin,
Vaughan and others. Much has
been said and surmised about the
action this association Will take,
and some have- gone so far as to
predict that a hew association will
be formed Out of the Canton,
Woodstock, Noonday, probably
Acworth, ailil two of three other
smaller churches to Ue known as
the Woodstock association, in
which eVent the remaining church¬
es ot the old Noonday would merge
into other neighboring associa¬
tions. But this is all wild specu¬
lation, as nothing Whatever may
done >2r said concerning this
Martin matter at the association.
