Miss Aurora Mellon recited very
touchiugly “Sister and I’,

was thc most delightful day of all.
State School Commissioner Glenn
delivered a splendid address which
should be treasured uu by teacners
and patrons and we very Jmuch
regret that we cannot give at
lease a synopsis of it. In the even
mg the people tenderd the teachers
an ice J cream supuci, which was
highly enjoyed.
Wc sec the bright faces of the
teachers depart with much reluc
tance and we will miss the gentle
air ot refinement and culture that
has maikeu their presecc here this
week.
We hope to have them with us
again next year.

DISTRIT CONTENTION.
Delegates to the Congressional
Convention of the Ninth Congres¬
sional District of Geargia met in
thc court house in Gainesville,
Dine 30th, at 11 o'clock a. m.
The body was called to order by
Hon. J. W. Henley, of Pickens
county, temporary chairman, in
a ringing speech feu democracy.
The body then went into perm¬
anent organization. Hon. Chas*
H. Brand of Gwinnett county, was
elected pernanent chairman of thc
convention, and Hon G. t\ Fyrtle
ot White, secretary.
The roll ot the counties was then
calle’il and all responded except
Towns county, after which the
convention went tnto a nomination
of a candidate to represent the
Ninth Congressional district m
the 55th Congress.
The name of Hou. F, C Tate of
Pickens c >unty, was put in norru-
nation by Col. Chas. L Bass of
Habersham county,and there be¬
ing no other names placed before
the convention, the Hon. F. P.
Tate was unanimously nominated
by rising vote.
'I he chair thon appointed to
notify the Hon. F. G. Tate of his
nomination tbe following commit¬
tee, lo-wit: Ci*L Chas. L. Bass,
Dr. F. J. Erwin and Col W. F.
Findley.
The platform committee report¬
ed the following platform, which
was unanimously adopted by the
convention:
1st. That we cordially endoise
the platform of principles enuncia¬
ted by the Georgia Democratic
held at Macon on
June 25th, iSq 6, and pledge
support to the same, especially
that portion which declared for
the ancient democratic policy of
