WOMAN'S' WORK AT
INTER-STATE
Ladies Given Chance to Show
What They Can Do.
APPROPRIATION OP $1,000
Till* 8 uin Is Set Aside Kor Premiums
In Tills Special l>cparlm«nt by the
Southern Inter-State Fair Manage
ment—Plans Outlined.
For the first time in the history of
fairs the ladies are to have a free and
unharoiierv.l opportunity to show just
what they can do. The Woman's Do
partment of tho Southern Inter-State
Fair, to bo held at Atlanta, Oct. 10 to
27, has been placed in control of tho
Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs,
to do with just as they see fit.
The Management of tho Fair appro
priated fl, 000.00 for premiums in this
ladies in charge. Mrs. J. Lindsay John
son is president of tho Slate Federation
of Women’s Clubs and on her shoulder*
has fallen tho organization principal work and division and re
sponsibility dut^. of
of Mr.
In discussing the matter recently
T. H. Mariin, Secretary of the Southern
Inter-State Fair, had this to say regard
ing the work already accomplished Chibs: by
tho Federation of Women’s
* 'Mrs. Johnson and her associates have
accomplished wondors in exciting gen
eral interest in the Women’s Depart
ment of the Fair. It is already evident
that the space devoted to these exhibits
last year will have to be materially in
creased and we have decided to give
them an eutire building. Women's Clubs
"The Federation of
assisted ns very greatly last year and in
making due the Department efforts of a these success, ladies,
it was to the
especially tho very efficient cooperation exhibits
of Mrs. Johnson, that the ladies best not
were secured. But the did
have a fair showing hast year. It was
late when the work was placed in their
hands. Besides this, they had nothing
to do with arranging the premium list,
consequently tno,ro were many desirable
premiums left out altogether. This year
we have given them full sway, and re
sults have justified the innovation.
"The ladies also have charge of tho
Flower 8 how, which is to be hold dur
ing the last week of the Fair. There
are a number of amateur garden clubs
in the south and I understand there is
quite a lively rivalry among these clubs.
This will result in some interesting sur
prises at the Flower Show. The prizes
offered in ibis department are quite
worth capturing. They tiro larger, in
deed, than were over before offered in
the sonf h."
The ciub women will uet as agent's n.
each county to procure exhibits, take
charge of them ami place them advan
tageously in tho building which will be
devoted entirely to the women’s work.
A large and general exhibit, will bo
made this year. It will consist of vari
ous farm products, as well as jellies and
jams, tidies and tattiug. It is realized
that it is the variety timt is valuable,
and that each and everything has its
place to fill and is vnlnahl > in it.
Several prtfmiucut club wutueu who
aro farmers will have exhibits of farm
products amt live stock. Mrs. Nellie
Peters Block will exhibit Smith, farm products,
as will also Mrs. a prosperous
farmer near Griffin. Mrs. Hamilton
Yancey will have fine Cti ttla; Mf.e J.
Lindsay Johnson, priao stratus of shoeo
and hogs,
There will be this year ample upnou
for every woman the of south, who has
anything to exhibit, to have it placed
advantageously. Tho premiums larger mid
are move
varied than last year.
Those who are interested cun obtain
further information, and a premium
list, by applying in person, or by letter,
to Mrs. J. Lindsay Johnson, oaro T. II.
