Happy Ramblers
It had been many years since
I had been on a cruise, but on
March 25, Jim, Annette, Sue and I
left out for a cruise to Nassau. It is
strange to drive south and in the
matter of a few hours you are into
late spring. We ate our first night
in Titusville at Dixie Crossroads
and it was so good. This place
seats over 500 and it is world
famous. Early the next morning
we went out to tour Kennedy
Space Center. You need a full day
for this and we didn’t have that
much time but enjoyed what time
we had there. This was one of the
things Annette had sure wanted to
see. On down to Port Canaveral to
board our ship. It was so different
from other times that I had
cruised, the security there is like
the airport. The ship was so big
and we were so excited over being
on this trip together. However,
there was a wee bit of problem.
The winds were 40 miles per hour
and so there was much movement
of this vessel! We all walked
around like we were drunk but
everyone just laughed at everyone
else and kept going.
The food and the entertainment
have always been a big thing on a
cruise and we loved both. We
docked in Nassau Saturday and
went on a tour of the island. I was
really disappointed in the Straw
Market, the old one had burned
and now they do not have the
crafts people working and trying
to sell their works (just a few of
these). They have the imports, T-
shirts, clothes, imported souvenir
items, etc.
We enjoyed visiting the water
front it is so pretty. On over to
Paradise Island. It is much more
populated now than when I was
last there but still impressive.
We spent Sunday on a private
island owed by the ship line and it
was quite nice. The water is so
blue and they had the crafts people
there doing some of their carving
and weaving. We enjoyed our time
on this small spot of land and the
ship crew served up a great BBQ
lunch. One of the waiters had
talked to me early that morning
and said they always hoped the
weather would be good so every
one could go to CoCoCay (name
of the island) because they got a
day of rest when this happened!
We had a great time on the
cruise and made new friends and
will have many pleasant hours
reliving this trip together with Jim
and Nett. Sue and I travel together
all the time.

Your family loves you little one.
Always remember that life is a jour
ney not a race.
Mountain Mentors
Caring adults are needed for
mentor relationships with students
in Pickens County Elementary and
Middle schools. You can make a dif
ference in the life of a child by lis
tening, laughing, sharing, guiding
and encouraging. Students in a men
toring program enjoy school more
and are less likely to engage in risky
behaviors. If you built your life on
positive values and have a love for
children, contact Ann Burger, youth
coordinator at PCMS, 253-1830;
