Broughton Bannister
Mr. Broughton Bannister, age 94
of the Yellow Creek Community
(Ball Ground), passed away early
Monday, April 5, 2004 at Wellstar
Cobb Hospital-Austell.
Survivors include his wife,
Jayne Bannister, Yellow Creek;
sons and daughter-in-law, Marlon
and Mary Gentry, Ball Ground,
and Kenneth Gentry and future
daughter-in-law Linda Cagle, Talk
ing Rock; daughter, Blondine Ban
nister, Yellow Creek; brother, Clain
Bannister, Smyrna; grandchildren,
Adam and Stacy, David, Jason and
Denise Gentry, Gail and Victor
Franco, Kathy and Michael
Pacheco; and great-grandchildren,
Jessica and Austin Franco, Marissia
and Lucino Pacheco, Haley and
Brittney Phillips and Roger Green.
The funeral service will be held
Thursday, April 8 at 2 p.m. from
the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home
with the Revs. Roy Blackwell,
Johnny Padgett and Gene Hyde
officiating. Interment will follow in
Mica Baptist Church Cemetery
with Masonic graveside rites with
the following serving as pallbear
ers: Adam, David and Jason Gen
try, Michael Pacheco, Victor Fran
co and J.T. Manus. Honorary pall
bearers were Mike Wofford and
Jim Lawson

Annie Yates
Mrs. Annie Maude Yates, age 75
of Marble Hill, passed away Sun
day evening, April 4, 2004 at Well-
star Kennestone Hospital in Mariet
ta.
Survivors include her husband,
Robert Yates, Marble Hill; son and
daughter-in-law, James and Donna
Mercer, McDonough; daughters
and sons-in-law, Marie and Thomas
Brittain, Sharpsburg, Jean and
James Archer and Patricia and Amy
Yates, all of Marble Hill; sister,
Mrs. Stella Mae Fowler, Atlanta.
Ten grandchildren and six great
grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held
Wednesday, April 7 at 2 p.m. from
Arbor Hill Baptist Church with the
Revs. Phillip Padgett, Sanford
Fountain, Greg Long and Phillip
Ward officiating. Interment fol
lowed in the church cemetery with
Carl, Casey and Jerry Duckett,
Phillip Ward, David and Tommy
Jones serving as pallbearers. Cagle
Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.

Jimmy Goss
Mr. Jimmy R. Goss, age 65 of
Jasper, passed away Sunday, April
11,2004. He was a carpenter and of
the Baptist faith.
Mr. Goss was preceded in death
by his parents, Richard Truman and
Edna Louise Duff Goss; and broth
ers, David and Robert.
Survivors include his sisters and
brothers-in-law, Sue and Bill
Crowe, Brenda Reece and Denise
and Roger Williams, all of Canton,
and Diane Mitchell, Jasper; brother
and sister-in-law, Kenny and Bar
bara Goss, Woodstock. Several
nieces and nephews also survive.
The service was held Tuesday,
April 13 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of South Canton Funeral Home
with the Revs. James Rich and
Chris Harper officiating. Interment
followed in Bethesda Cemetery.
Shirley Davis
Mrs. Shirley Mae Davis, age 67
of Jasper, passed away Saturday,
April 10, 2004 at Well Star Kenne
stone Hospital in Marietta.
Survivors include her sons,
James Goins, Atlanta, Dale Davis,
Jasper, and Dean Davis, Ellijay;
daughters, Linda Massey, Colum
bia, S.C., and Debbie Davis, Jasper;
brothers, Willie L., Kermit, Charlie,
Winda and Delton Patrick, all of
Bolton, N.C., Willie N. Patrick,
Council, N.C., and Emanuel
Patrick, Leland, N.C.; sisters, Reba
Roberson, Douglas, Ga., Annie V.
Graham and Lottie R. Jacobs, both
of Bolton, Lynn Kilgore, Winston,
Ga., Veda Young and Frances
Mitchell, both of Lake Waccamaw,
N.C., and Norma Ann Braboy,
Council. Four grandchildren also
survive.
The funeral service was held
Tuesday, April 13 at 11 a.m. from
the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home
with the Revs. Steve Chadwick,
Edward Miller and Chris White
officiating. Interment was in the
Ellijay City Cemetery. Brothers
served as pallbearers. The family
did accept flowers or donations
may be made to the American Can
cer Society.
Viney Hendrix
Mrs. Viney Beatrice Chastain
Hendrix, age 79 of Ranger, Ga.,
passed away Saturday, April 10,
2004 at her residence following a
sudden illness.
Mrs. Hendrix was born July 20,
1924 in Pickens County, the daugh
ter of the late Buddy Jim and Della
Hightower Chastain. She had spent
the greater part of her lifetime in
Gordon County and enjoyed out
side activities, gardening and
gospel music. Mrs. Hendrix was
preceded in death by her husband,
Lenard A. Hendrix in 1969, and by
a son, Marshall in 1998.
Survivors include her sons, Ken
neth, Marvin and Renith Hendrix,
all of Ranger, and J.L. Hendrix of
Cassville, Ga.; daughter, Margie
Lee Duvall of Ila, Ga.; sister, Othell
Chastain of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.;
brother, General Chastain of
Chickamauga, Ga. Eight grandchil
dren, 10 great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and other relatives
also survive.
The funeral service was held
Monday, April 12 at 2 p.m. from
Bradley Anderson Memorial
Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons
Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie
Brannon officiating. Singing was
arranged by the Hendrix Family.
Interment followed in Bethel Bap
tist Church Cemetery in Pickens
County with the Rev. G.W. Shaw in
charge of the graveside rites.

Senate hopeful
Callaham
to attend GOP
meeting here

Pickens County Republican GOP
Residents of Pickens County will
have the opportunity to meet their
new State Representative at the next
local GOP meeting, on April 15, at 7
p.m. in the Media Center of Jasper
Elementary School.
Rep. Garland Pinholster will
introduce Rep. Tom Graves to his
new constituency. The popular and
undefeated Rep. Pinholster served
the people of Pickens County, in the
Georgia House, for 12 years before
retiring in 2002.
Rep. Graves was first elected to
the Georgia House of Representa
tives in 2002. Prior to redistricting,
Tom served the people of Gordon
County. He is currently a Deputy
Whip, the Republican Vice Chair
man of the House Transportation
Committee and is a member of the
Health and Human Services and the
Agriculture Committees.
Tom, his wife Julie and their
three children live in Ranger. He is
the founder and owner of a land
scaping company, Southern Visions.
John Callaham, who is vying for
the Republican nomination for the
Georgia Senate will address the
meeting. John is a Baptist Pastor
whose ministry is directed to serv
ing both the church and the commu
nity. John's ministry emphasizes
youth work and community out
reach. He is a small business owner
who is very familiar with the chal
lenges faced by entrepreneurs.
John, his wife Sherri and their
son live in Cleveland.

Pickens County Republican GOP

ticipate in our meeting. Rep.
Graves and John Callaham will
make presentations and be available
to answer your questions. At future
