Local students recognized at Reinhardt Honors Day
Eight Pickens County students
were among the 159 students recog
nized at Reinhardt College’s Honors
Day on Sunday, April 4.
The local students recognized,
and their honors, included from
Jasper, Ga.: Leigh A. Childers, a
senior early childhood education
major, Dean's Scholar Award; Janice
P. Curtis, a senior middle grades
education major, Dean's Scholar
Award, Academic Degree Program
Award in middle grades education;
Tonya L. Dobson , a senior physical
education teacher preparation major,
Dean's Scholar Award; Patricia B.
Evans, a senior organizational lead
ership major. Dean's Scholar Award;
Brandon W. Harper, a senior busi
ness-general commerce major.
Dean's Scholar Award; Barbara L.
Yates, a senior business major.
Dean's Scholar Award;
And from Talking Rock, Ga.,:
Crystal L. Chastain, a senior biology
major, Who's Who Among Students
in American Universities and Col
leges; and Carrie E. Simmons, a

in Business/Accounting from the
McCamish School of Business.
Dean’s Scholars are juniors and
seniors with a cumulative grade-
point average of 3.6 to 3.89.
Who’s Who Among Students in
American Universities and Colleges
is an honor awarded to students
elected by a committee of faculty,
students and student development
staff for their leadership ability, aca
demic performance and potential for
the future.
Selected students must maintain
a minimum cumulative grade-point
average of 2.8 or higher.
Academic Degree Program
Awards were given to up to three
seniors from each degree program
with a cumulative grade-point aver
age of 3.6 or higher.
With an enrollment of about
1100 students, Reinhardt College is
a four-year liberal arts institution
with a residential Main Campus in
Cherokee County (Ga.) and an off
campus center in Alpharetta, Ga.
Affiliated with the United
Methodist Church, Reinhardt offers
programs in 29 fields of study.

This event will be held at
Appalachian Technical College on
May 11th, 2004.

Advisor, Appalachian Technical
College said, “Our area has many
qualified applicants who have
recently completed training or will
be completing training in the near
future. Many of these students have
been dislocated from area business
closures and have a fabulous work
ethic. This will be a premier oppor
tunity for employers to meet with
qualified applicants that have dedi
cated themselves to being retrained
in a new occupational field after
years in the manufacturing industry.
These people not only have
acquired new skills but their work
ethics such as dependability and
loyalty would be a tremendous asset
to any employer who would like to
interview them".

is to coordinate efforts between
employers who have job openings,
either part-time or full-time, and job
seekers in our communities. Ms.

Pickens Counties, regardless of

Business and Industry Instructor
The successful candidate must have a high
school diploma, GED or higher and a minimum of
five years work experience in industry, preferable
in mining or a mining related business or industry.
This full time instructor will conduct customized
employee training for area businesses and indus
tries. Topics to be taught will include safety, first
aid, CPR, forklift operator training, and basic com
puter skills, etc. CMSP or other safety certifica
tion,MSHA instructor approval, MSHA/OSHA
instructor training, and computer skill highly desir

Coordinator will be available to talk
with employers and potential
trainees about the advantages of
training on the job and the cost sav
ings to employers that choose to
participate in this program.
This event will be held at
Appalachian Technical College on
May 11th, 2004. The Job Fair
begins at 1:00 p.m. and concludes at
5:00 p.m. There is no charge for a
booth/display area, however, space
will be limited. Employers are
encouraged to reserve a space as
soon as possible. Employers include
representative companies from Fan
nin, Gilmer, Pickens and Cherokee
County. Employers seeking season
al help are encouraged to
participate.

Workshops
Offered
Free Adopt-A-Stream workshops
are offered to citizens who want to
protect their local stream. The
Upper Etowah River Alliance and
the Georgia Environmental Protec
tion Division sponsor the training,
which teach participants how to
evaluate the health of a stream, who
to call for problems, chemical test
ing of water, aquatic insect identifi
cation, and more. The next work
shops are April 17 and May 1 in
