An “Eggstraordinary” Event last Saturday
They're off!
Dad D Lion working the crowd.
Waiting for the “go” signal.
Last Saturday morning, mem
bers of the Jasper Lions Club were
out in force to hide nearly 13,000
plastic eggs at Lee Newton Memo
rial Park, blow up many, many bal
loons and arrange special prizes
for distribution. Lions Melanie
Effler and Roy Sellers were again
co-chairs of the event and did
another outstanding job with the
help of many Jasper Lions.
This was the third year for the
Easter event and crowds began to
gather early. The bridge across the
creek beside the Chamber of Com
merce was the gateway to the eggs
and it tests the patience of anxious
hunters to wait. Lion Mark Miller
and other Lions kept the 438 chil
dren and their parents in a good
mood until the hunt got underway
promptly at 10 a.m. Children
under four were led to a special
place just for them so they would
not be overcome by the others.
Each egg contained candy or a
small toy and certain ones con
tained numbers that could be
exchanged for a special prize.
There were also free balloons for
all and Dan D Lion was on hand to
greet everyone.
Crime Victim’s Rights Week
to be observed here
The younger hunters had their own space.
This was a service to the children
of our community by the Lions
Club. Thanks to the parents who got
up early to bring their children and
to the Chamber of Commerce for
use of the patio area and power set
up.
“Lll never be a victim of crime!
Crime is something that happens to
someone else. Crime is certainly a
societal problem, but not one that
affects me personally.”
If these statements were only
true! The reality is that most people
in America will be a victim of or a
witness to a crime in their lifetime.
Old or young, rich or poor, inner
city or rural area -- these are the
faces of victims of crime in Ameri
ca. The threat and impact of terror
ism have had a profound affect on
Americans’ feelings of safety and
security. The reality and threat of
being a victim of violence is,
indeed, personal.
April 18-24 marks the commem
oration of National Crime Victim’s
Rights Week. Lor those seven days,
victim service providers, justice
professionals and others seek to
promote greater public awareness
about a serious problem that affects
our nation and its people 365 days a
year.
During this week, in the lobby of
the courthouses in Pickens, Gilmer
and Lannin, there will be an infor
mational booth sponsored by the
State Probation office and the
Appalachian Judicial Circuit Dis
trict Attorney’s office with informa
tion on victims’ rights and services.
Members of the community are
invited to come by and see the list
of services available for victims and
become familiar with specific
duties of the criminal justice com
munity regarding the basic needs of
victims, that is, information, notifi
cation, protection, participation and
restitution.
Lor additional information con
tact Linda Chapman, chief proba
tion officer, 692-4805, or Sherri
Kirk, Victim Witness Assistance
director, 635-5122.
S ORTHODONTICS S
WITH A PROMISE
FROM MY HEART TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS
I have been in practice for over 25 years and have promised that if
any one of my many thousands of patients are not happy with their
orthodontic results, I will retreat at no charge to them. This is a
simple promise that tells you that I take the time to obtain optimal
results for each unique patient. My patients wear their retainers
only for a short time and I do not rely on gluing patients’ teeth
together to maintain stability. Only neutral zone orthodontics can
provide this type of quality treatment. Invisalign, functional appli
ances, head gear, and regular braces are only instruments. You
must diligently seek the intentions and get a promise from an
orthodontist of your choice.
If you are ever told that you will need to wear a retainer indefinitely or for life, or are
told that there will be a retainer cemented on your teeth to remain indefinitely then you
are not getting neutral zone orthodontics. BEWARE - When an orthodontist tells you to
wear your retainer indefinitely and you accept this as fact you have taken the responsi
bility of treatment stability from the orthodontist, where it should be, and now accept it
as your responsibility. When your teeth shift and become crooked again, that orthodon
tist is going to say “Well you didn’t wear your retainer like I told you to wear it. It is your
fault the teeth shifted!” When you are told this you must realize that is only a COVER UP
FOR INCOMPLETE ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT and in most cases it is not your
fault. Find out these intentions BEFORE you begin orthodontic treatment by asking very
specific questions.
You may receive excellent treatment from an orthodontist who promises you nothing.
However, would you prefer to trust your orthodontics needs to an orthodontist less confi
dent in their routine results or one willing to make a meaningful promise.
